Speech class

My son has been taking speech classes outside of the classroom once or twice a week as well as reading &writing and math. We are happy about all of them except for the speech! In this case which is what he may need the most. However, his speech teacher gives him the same homework over and over for weeks. She does not even give out a new sheet every time. He is so frustrated and hates his speech teacher now. I receive an email from her every week. This makes me mad and sometimes I take it out on my son when there’s no need. Can I talk to the principal and have him not take speech anymore? Honestly, I don’t think he is benefiting any. Or is it mandatory ?

Always put things in writing so you have a paper trail.

Yourd qualified for speech so he should be having this service. Not sure why he would need homework, unless the speech teacher is asking to give it.

You could simply ask for a new speech teacher?

Sometimes there are other speech teachers at the same school Or you could offer to drive him to another school to see a different speech teacher.

It would be nice to give a solution when you present the problem.

Believe me there are plenty of teachers that our son did not get along with.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I’ll be putting an e-mail to the school principal, and explain these things. You are right, he’s qualified for the service. Why not get the best out of it right? I want him to benefit from it, not getting mad at teacher. I also do not see why a speech teacher would give homework. It is pointless.

You will encounter many teachers...some amazing, some not.

Just try to get a new one. NO homework!

The services are his and he needs them or he would not qualify.

Good luck

Contact not only the principle but the special Ed coordinator. My grandson takes a social issues class in middle school and at first all they did was give homework instead of helping them deal with behaviors at school. I complained to the special Ed coordinator for the district and believe it or not they changed things.
