Hello, my son is 14, ADHD, has IEP and lots of support from school .
We have a transition meeting this Wednesday.
Can anybody share, from their experience with high school life, what should I be aware on that meeting? What should I try to make sure he has in his IEP etc?
Thank you

Here's specific information based on Connecticut's Dept of Special Education. Transition planning can be complicated and involved but so necessary. Let me know if you have any questions after reviewing the links below and I'll try to help. Hope to see you at one of our Parent Support Group meetings. I'll send you info on our next one coming up on Wed May 8th.
Thank you for the links. He is 14 so I don't think Transition Meeting is required, but since he is going from MS to HS I thought it will be a good idea.
It's an excellent idea to start the process. I've taken a whole class on transitioning recently. The earlier the better in most cases depending on the level of need and how you see him in the future in terms of daily living and leading a successful life based on his interests and strengths.
Our next support group meeting will be Wed May 8th at AHM Youth Services. 25 Pendleton Dr Hebron. Directions: ahmyouth.org/contact-u/dire...
The topic is "Teens with ADHD and the reality of motivation", a conversation with Penny Williams, award winning author, ADHD expert and host and creator of the ADHD Parenting podcast. She interviews Jeff Copper, MBA, PCC, PCAC, CPCC, ACG, - an attention coach and expert on attention issues, more commonly referred to as Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD/ADHD.
We'll listen to the interview and discuss specific points, pausing the interview as needed. I will type up notes from the podcast and hand out ahead of time so everyone can refer to the highlights and write their own notes as well.
Right now we expect 3-4 parents to attend but as they say, you never know. Does that sound like something of interest? (coffee, tea and fresh baked cookies might tempt you to attend
Thanks for reaching out to the group. I see there in excellent information as feedback. From personal experience there could be a difference in timing in classes and services from MS to HS. So the IEP should reflect this. If the services he has now are helping then keep those and see what other services at the HS level they offer. One of our HS's traditional and one is block schedule ( only 4 classes with lunch in between. )
Each IEP is so personal so it is hard for us to make suggestions. Please remember that even though the IEP meeting is one time a year, if things are not working you can always ask for an additional meeting.
