Hello, this is my second IEP meeting in 2 months. My son's new school has been so disorganized with my son's IEP. Things we discussed at our October meeting were left off or incorrect. He had Math Problem Solving goals, but the 3 objectives were removed and replaced with new objectives that are completely unrelated (telling time and money). I'm so frustrated over having to take off from work to go there again and get corrections. The whole process is stressful. Most times when the meeting is over I want to just sit in my car and cry.
Please pray for me. Thank you
Please make sure there is a supervisor of the staff doing the work. Some times this is an off site coordinator. Without this power mistakes will most likely keep happening. They should be sending you progress on goals also.
I assume this is a resource teacher?
Doesn't sound like they have much experience.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Hi Onthemove, a member of the school district was present and was able to get the corrected goals put back on. I do get progress reports, but I really think they are "generic" and not a real reflection of how he is doing. The resource teacher is fairly new and overloaded with cases. I don't think she has a lot of experience with writing the objectives and goals. Seemed very flustered and confused in today's meeting. I'm glad it's over. Instead of crying in the car I went and bought a huge box of french fries. I stared at the bottles of wine for a long time but decided against that as I had to get back to work.
Thanks for sharing. Hope she can get it together for your child..each one needs individual help.
Way to go at advocating for him.
Tonight the wine comes out.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I am always a nervous wreck before the meeting. They shouldn't have to be so stressful.
One way to cut down in the stress is to ask for reports and info. Sent to you 1 week before. Then you kinda know what is coming. Also, they can't invite someone you don't know ( like a new specialist) unless they ask you.
It should get easier the better he does and when they do their job. The stressful ones are when there are issues.
Take care, enjoy the holidays.
