Working on diagnosis

We have an appointment next with with a neurologist to start diagnosis process. I get daily feed back from my sons teacher. She feels sometimes he can control his concentration and impulsively and other times he seems he can’t. He “buzzes out” I ask him what he is thinking about or if his mind has a lot going on... his response is he’s thinking about recess... wanting to get to recess... and being excited. If I tell him he will get something for reading or writing he will do it perfectly if nothings offered it’s a struggle

Van3939- So happy you are in the process of learning more about your son. Yes, one of the symptoms of having ADHD is that there is a "focus on the next". Also, when something is interesting to the child/person they will put much more effort.

So for example, our son loves basketball. So as we are driving home the only thing he is focused on is getting in the backyard to throw the basketball. Meanwhile I am trying to get him to take his stuff (backpack, shoes, water bottle) out of the car. So the car and his stuff are ignored as he runs to play. I am mad, until I realize this is how his brain works. So I have to call him back and then there is an argument.

This is just one example of how they think... understanding this will help you so much.

School is another subject.. good luck.
