For those of you that struggle with school, the phone calls, the suspensions, the knowing your child isn’t getting the education or support they need, please realize there ARE more options for you! You just have to go through the cycle which I won’t sugar coat it, it’s taken many hours, much stress but well worth it in the end!
I challenged the district, because they were unable to accommodate my sons behavior while also striving for education and after 1 year of kindergarten and 3 months of 1st grade we were granted assistant for non-public school. With the help of our family advocate we now are getting the services we need to challenge and strive for my sons abilities rather than focus on his inabilities. Feeling grateful!!
How did you get an advocate and help? My son was removed from 3 preschools and has only been in kindergarten for 1 month and having a difficult time due to his impulsiveness but he is so smart and social. It is hard to know the best thing to do.
Oh I know the feeling, my son was removed from 2 preschools prior to kindergarten. Let me ask a few questions first before I get into the whole process so I can walk you step by step. Does your son currently have an IEP? If so is he in a revise classroom or a modified class due to his behavior? ❤️
I'm at 4, well 5 if you count the summer camp incident with sticky sand. Looking back I hate preschools...they can boot a kid out on a whim. They are a business and our kids take too much work and are a bad ROI for them. Was so glad to finally get to public school. Haven't rec'd 1 phone call in 5 years. Maybe a few notes and emails during 1st-3rd...but much better from 4th on. Looking back, I would have paid a sitter to take care of my daughter at home, and spared us the stress of change/finding new preschools. Also, would have medicated her earlier. We did not start until summer of 2017. Good luck though with whatever you do.
I appreciate it! We ended up having to keep him with a sitter after being removed from 2 preschools. We weren’t able to get any assistance until he was in kindergarten and now thankfully we are getting all that’s needed.
