A Sleep Technique for your ADHD child

My son as a child had problems sleeping at night. We would read books to him at night, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

At the age of 7 when he was diagnosed with ADHD it would take him longer time to sleep.

The one rule we had in the house was to "Stick to your Routine". Bath time and then bed time. If he got up, we would calmly put him back to bed. So he knew this was it, after bath it was bed time, nothing else no changes.

Sometimes he would get upset that he couldn't sleep and complained about it.

One day I had an idea, to put relaxed meditation music on and give him a massage.

He loved it and it became a reward for him. To do homework or clean up or bring a better grade home and he would receive a reward with a relaxed massage.

It was excellent. He would sleep like an angel.

He's 11 years old and he still asks for his reward.

Yes, he still has trouble sleeping, sometimes even an hour will pass until he falls asleep but he knows that he is not allowed out of bed.

Now that he's older and I give him a relaxed massage, I do a little talking meditation to him first.

I would start with telling him to relax... To breath in and out slowly... To give 'Thanks' for having his health, for having a home, a bed to sleep on, a family that loves him.... Thank you for having a safe school with teachers who care about him, cool friends that like him and play with him...... Etc.

As I give him his massage I use the techniques that I heard in a yoga class or in a meditation class or a massage that I once had.

I am giving pure loving energy to my son and honestly I have seen a huge change on him.

Try it and tell me how it goes. Good luck, Relax and Enjoy. ❤

This is so TRUE! my 14 year old falls asleep so much more easily if I have the time to sit with him and rub his back- He likes some white noise too. I wish I had the energy to do it every night because it really helps
