Have you asked your doctor? I’ve wanted to try caffeine as well, but in order to get my son to drink coffee it would have to have a bunch of sugar, which exacerbates his hyperness. So I’m interested in hearing what your doctor says.
Yes, that was part of the "long story" I mentioned above We took him to a neurofeedback guy to try that (before he was officially diagnosed with ADHD and he couldn't sit for the 3 minutes required at the first session.
So that doctor told us to go back to primary care doctor, get her to diagnose him officially, and put him on medication to calm him down. Then come back to neurofeedback doctor and try again.
As we were leaving the guy said to try caffeine.
Luckily for us, our guy will drink iced coffee with a shot of honey - and it worked really great. But 2 weeks later he didn't want coffee anymore
In the meantime, we got official diagnosis from his primary care and started him on Ritalin. That went horrible. He became chaotic and aggressive again and you could literally see him unable to focus himself.
So we took him off Ritalin after just 3 days.
Primary care and I spoke again yesterday and she said since caffeine is working so great on him... then we should just try to do that. She isn't worried about side effects or anything at this point.
I did find these little things on Amazon that another parent on here uses on her kid. 3 "candies" are equal to a cup of coffee so we're going to try that as soon as they arrive: amazon.com/Good-Day-Chocola...
So in other words, we have our doctor's blessing to continue with caffeine.
I’ve known several people who that has worked for, and I want to try it on my son. I just want to avoid the sugar 🙂. I’m going to try those candies. Thanks.
My son is hyper already and with all the things he likes (carb & sugars) and is eating, doing coffee or caffeine shots like these is a temporary fix. Best of luck!
