My son with adhd

Hey everyone. Im new to this site my son has ADHD and he is gana be 9 . He can be a handful sometimes but he is a good kid. I just need to learn more about adhd and how can i help my son with out any medication.

Hello. I was also very anti med, but after years of therapy, diet changes and discussions with his docs, we decided to try very low doses, and have seen a remarkable shift in my 11 year old. I really think it’s worth a shot, and may only be a short term need. Good luck!

I am in the exact same boat as you. My son is in grade 9 and was just diagnosed. He is a good kid but is a handful. I was completely against medication. I tried changing his diets and I researched different vitamins to give him. After numerous phone calls from the school, a suspension and my son constantly texting me while at school upset, I gave in. He has just started a low dose of Concerta 18 mg. Almost two weeks. He is good with taking the meds. We discussed with him ADHD and he has told me that he finds it hard at school especially with focus. He said a millions things go through his head and he gets frustrated. That is where the impulsive behavior and being a distraction come into play. He agreed to try the meds. He said the first day he noticed a difference. I have seen changes at times but not all the time. I am not sure if the meds wear off or if he needs a higher dose. I have researched different meds and how they work. It is so confusing. I would say find a dr. who is familiar with the meds. From what I have read everyone is different. Some meds work and some do not. As well, I think it is trial and error on what dose to give them.
