Reading and spellng

My grandson just got his report card on Friday. I don't understand how he gets an A in reading and a C in spelling, he won't read at home. Nothing, not even books he gets from the library. He also struggles with math, mostly number recognition.

All I can say is the English language is hard. There are so many rules and exceptions to a rule while spell. My son can read (this) but will spell it (dis). He spells how he hears it. I hope this can help you.

How old is he? Neither my daughter nor her kids have ever been good at reading. I am a voracious reader and always read to the boys when they were young. I'm actually in the process of hiring a reading tutor for my youngest grandson right now.

He is 6.5 and I read to him. I buy lots children's books. He appears to have an interest in LEGO 's books here lately, so maybe a sign of better things to come.
