Its okay to help him read as long as you are not doing all the reading for him
If it helps him read then do it! My son has dyslexia and struggles to read. I found it helpful to check out the audio books through the public library and have him follow along in the hard copy book as well. This enables him to learn words by seeing and hearing at the same time. It also helped boost his comprehension and memory of the story.
There is also a program called BookShare. This is a free service in which people with “Print” deficits can download audio books for FREE! I love free! You have to have someone complete the necessary form and email it back to the organization for your membership. Once you have your membership, all you have to do is put in the title or ISBN number and you can download the audio book for FREE...Did I mention it is FREE! Check out either resource. Keep fighting the good fight! Hope this helps.
Thank you so much. We just completed a book called The Wave for his 9th grade English class. I had him read the chapters out loud and would ask him questions about the story along the way. I also had him watch the movie after he finished the book to reinforce what he had read. I will definitely look into the free audio book program.
