I am new on this flatform and very worried and curious to discover ways to help my boy (ADHD)

I have a boy who is 10 years old and not doing well in school which is a big concern for me.Pls kindly advise on ways and measures i can implore to unlock his potentials and maximise his very own God giving talents.

Is he on any medications? Does he have an IEP or 504 at school?

That's the reason we are all on this site. 😀 I don't have any short answers except to say welcome to our world.

Maybe i could add a few things. I think of the ADD brain as a brilliant cave-man brain: good for sensing danger in the woods, good in a crisis, very attentive when the adrenaline is flowing. It's easy to see why the ADD brain survived evolutionary pressures and is with us today. It's not a great brain for today's world of prioritizing boring paperwork. I was good at school only to fail at homemaking. Boring tasks are almost insurmountable for my ADD brain.

For my son, classrooms and homework are miserably confining. For his ADD brain, learning experiences that involve motion are good: childrens science museums, being outdoors especially near water, being on trains, cub scouts, Regional Occupation Program. Stimulent medications helped until he quit them. Sports helped until he quit them. Fish oil helped until he quit it. Video games are fun for him. Firefighting training is something my son can do well; let's hope it leads to a job. He will probably do well in many workplace settings that do not involve sitting still too long. He can probably even manage staff, except subtle social cues and clues may escape him (as they do me.)

My 18 year old son has not yet tried alcohol or drugs because we told him he's at high risk for addiction due to his ADD and our family's genitics. He says he will probably try pot later on but has held off for now.

Hope this helps.
