If you need the recording to help you process what is said and everyone agrees that it is a good idea, then yes. If you are doing it because you don't trust the school, be careful about the message it is sending. You don't want to set up an antagonistic relationship with the school personnel. However, if it already is not a good relationship, it can be a document of the conversation.

If it's because you don't trust them use a hidden recorder. I find teachers take things very personally.

If you’re not trusting your school tell them you will bring in meditation from the state. That will get the ball rolling. Also let them know you will be reaching out to an advocate. Know your stuff. Understood.org is a great resource. We just had our first IEP meeting and I had documents laid out on the table from my advocate who broke down the psychology evaluation and turned it into a bell curve for education purpose. You are your child’s advocate and if you get push back from the school...then you dig your heels in and push back :)
