I ve been having severe left eye pain, with aching above my eye and around my ear..last 3-5 days constant pain, main problem is its like a knife going through my eye..I have been referred for Mri by ENT to exvlude AN...12 mos left high pitch tinnitus with some hearing loss high frequency ( I think its just because the tinnitus is just soo loud that I dont always hear folk!)..plus a bit unsteady at times..mb just my age- 55.
I ve been a migraine suffered all my life..Gp feels these different headaches are migraine whuch can change in presentation after menopause..which sounds feasible.
Im hoping that these headaches are not the kind usually experienced with AN, grateful if anyone any advice and reassure..many thanks.
I am hypothyroid, hx bilateral cataracts age 48 and retinal detachment age 49.

Hi fluffyhat, i experienced stabbing ear pain that went up through that side of my head and had what the optician said were ocular migraines. Its good that they are giving you an MRI as that will say one way or another what is causing it, it could be a number of other things. I know its hard to do but try not to worry as it might not be AN. Hopefully you will get your MRI soon, not have to wait long
Hi Pinkrose, thank you for replying - its really helpful..I had been thinking that AN headaches might be constant rather than intermittent..yes am really glad that ENT req mri...Specsavers had written to ask my Gp to refer neuro opthalmology the headaches as apart from longstanding severe dryness they could find no opthalmic cause...GP decided that wasnt necessary and was confident it was a different presenation migraine..Im in Scotland, think wait times possibly better than elsewhere..6-8 weeks wait..very glad to be getting a scan so quickly.
I hope you are well, and best wishes for Christmas and 2023.
That's great that it isn't long to wait. I have my routine MRI scan in 2 weeks time to check if there is any regrowth after the surgery. Its amazing what they can do for AN and worth remembering that they aren't malignant and tend to be slow growing which helps relieve some of the anxiety. Take care and hope all works out well for you x
