Good morning, Teashop

Here in Leeds lots of planned operations were postponed as we went into lockdown. However, things are slowly returning. I had my annual MRI cancelled in April, but had a letter to go to St James' on 10th June. Only one patient and one radiologist allowed in the department at a time. Everything had to be cleaned down inbetween patients. I usually have a cannula and contrast dye, but not this time. The radiologist told me it was going to take them ages to catch up with the backlog.

We have a specialist nurse (who is part of the skull base team) who is great at answering questions and telling you what is happening in the department. You just have to leave her a message and she'll get back to you. If you have someone like that in Liverpool, try giving them a call or do you have the number of your consultant's secretary?

When I was first diagnosed one of the most difficult things for me was the waiting (still is, to be honest). There seemed to be such long gaps between events and then I was put on 'wait and watch' for 4 years! Sometimes it is very difficult to put everything to the back of your mind and stay positive.

I hope you hear very soon about a date for your surgery and that it all goes as well as it can. I shall be thinking of you.

Stay safe

Hi Teashop, I am sorry to hear your operation was cancelled and I hope you hear soon with a new date for your AN operation. The NHS announced that they were postponing all non-urgent elective operations in England from 15 April for three months and we appreciate that this raised questions for some of our community.

We have a dedicated page on our website about how coronavirus is affecting treatment.

thebraintumourcharity.org/m...

We also reccomened that you contact your medical team regarding any updates with your surgery and talk to them about the impact this may have had!

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Best wishes.

Hi mine was cancelled from 4th May.....have been in touch with skull base nurse as my symptoms are worsening and Im also concerned as this will be my second surgery plus I’ve had GK so have been told surgery will be more aggressive so more chance of side effects. Hopefully they will get back to me next week with some news. Where are you due to go for surgery? I’m scheduled for Southmead, Bristol and we have been ver6 lucky in the South West not to have been affected by corona as badly as some places so the hospitals started doing elective surgeries again a few weeks ago. My surgery was cancelled at the start of lockdown but then I developed more severe symptoms so they found me a spot and got me in 2 weeks later. They said they are currently only doing surgery for cancerous patients and patients with severe symptoms. Hope this helps
