Trick your mind to stop worrying and overthinking 🤔🤔

Almost everyone say that during anxiety, focus on positive thought rather than negatives one, then we will be able to overcome or deal with anxiety. I agreed to this point, that what we think plays an important role to control anxiety.

And in my understanding, CBT ( Cognitive behavioural therapy) needs continuous practise of watching our thoughts, try to think both perspectives of a thought, positive n negative n only after that come to conclusion that we’ve to concentrate more on positive thought. But here, question arises in my mind that when anxiety hits who’ll decide or how can we decide that the thought which is coming to our mind at that time is positive or negative? And when we dont know which thought of ours at that time is positive or negative, then what will happen if we take our negative thought as positive but its otherwise n vice versa? So what I understand is that at the very moment of anxiety, we must not focus on the thought coming to our mind, positive or negative and just try to distract ourselves from thinking process, or try to sit calmly( which i know is next to impossible) just keep telling urself it will pass. And once anxiety phase passes away then we can think about the thought which triggers anxiety, try to analyse it based on facts and decide is it postive one or negative, and note it down what it is, so that next time if it happens again, you have ur own help available to you. I may be wrong but this what I understand and it helps me sometime, not all times. Whats your opinion about it? Is it worth to share our thoughts on it?……….pratyaya singh

Hi Pratyaya,

you've written some very useful tips and it's nice to share them here, as we all want to share our own experience to help others. I do believe decluttering is the way forward but sometimes its not easy for some, like how, what do i do, when, what if's.

Anxiety I feel stems from the environment that triggers it in the first place. that environment that triggers it needs a good understanding that what aspects of it trigger these thoughts. I remember when I have anxiety sometimes all sorts of thoughts come into my mind and it is difficult to distract yourself from them. The one that prevails most is "I just want to get out of here". to me that's a positive thought because it suits me but fit it into the socially norm, its a negative thought and at the same time i knew it was negative because fitting into society was the way forward. I feel the environment is the key to understand from ones perspective. Away from it if we imagine ourselves back in that environment then we can calmly think and find out what are these triggers. These triggers can people, smell, the place itself or work and these need to be understood.
