7.5 weeks ago I had surgery to reconstruct my Achilles’ tendon. The short version is my foot is still swollen and I can’t walk due to pain. I had a nerve block for the surgery and wonder if the swelling & numbness is a result of it. My Dr. did not prescribe physical therapy. He just said work back into walking based on a pain tolerance. Just feeling frustrated and confused. My daughter says the slow recovery is tied to my age, 72. And aside from the physical/emotional issues I’m afraid I might lose my job.

i don't think he's right. my mum had fusion surgery on her foot and had physio. also, it's not just age. the foot takes longest on the entire body to heal b/c it's so far from the heart/circulation/nerve center/pressure when walking on it.
i'm so sorry you're going through this. is there a patient advocate you can contact about the pain and getting a physiotherapist? if not, i'd try the dr.'s nurse or contact your insurance provider.
Thanks for the informative reply. I didn’t know about the longer healing time for feet. And I did send a message thru their patient portal to the nurse and I’m waiting on her response. Hopefully she’ll be of some help. Thanks again.
it's sad, but nurses are often better with bedside manner than the drs. if they don't know something, they'll ask the dr and get back to you, but they seem to care more.
yeah, i felt so horrible for my mum. i remembered a few years back when i lost a toenail and it took 10 months to fully heal. and that was just the toenail!!!😰 with therapy, meds and at home exercise it took my mum a little over a year to fully recover. oh, i dunno if they've talked to you about this, but make sure you're wearing the right shoes! my mum had to buy new shoes/all flats.
happy i could help a little.🤗
