What can I take for insomnia? I have been on Zoloft 100mg for 7 weeks. It took me a while to feel better by taking the Med. It seems to be working. The big problem is my insomnia. Is there anything I can take?

Hi Connor08

Sorry to read about your insomnia, sleep depravation is a horrible experience. Whilst we can't advise you what to take, especially as you are already on medication, we can suggest other things that may help. You don't say how old you are but if you use a computer or any technical equipment, you should stop using them at least 2/3 hours before bedtime, that includes your phone! sorry but it seems this is the biggest problem that prevents sleep. You can also try a little more exercise during the daytime if you are able and a warm bath before bed. You may also like to try Mindfulness, great way to unwind and you can listen to the 'body scan' on YT

I'm sure others will offer their suggestions too, so don't despair and check in again.

All the best

Chloe

Hello Connor08

I am pleased to hear that you think Zoloft is working for you.

I am so sorry that you suffer from insomnia. There is nothing worse than being awake when it seems the whole world is sleeping. Particularly if you are not able to catch up on missed sleep.

There are a number of different sleep medications available. In general medication for sleep lasts only a short time before it becomes ineffective. An increased dose may then be offered and the cycle begins. Some sleep medications are addictive and GP's will generally only prescribe them for a short period.

I suggest that you make an appointment to see your GP to ask about help for your insomnia. Let us know how you get on. I wish you well,

Hello insomnia, I have had this problem since 18 years old I am now 72 and not a single night I have ever had more than 4 hours of sleep, some time I went straight two weeks without sleep.

I have taken temazepam for one year and it help me sleep 5 hours a night and I am quite happy with that . Exercise during the the would help.

Hello Jerrym888

I am really sorry but I seem to have replied to your reply starting 'Hello Insomnia' by mistake. I think I got a little confused. However my comments in my reply are made with all sincerity to you. Apologies once again,

Hello Jerrym888,

Thank you for your reply. Goodness you have lived with insomnia for all of your adult life. I do not know how you have coped but you have and cannot even begin to imagine how it feels not to sleep for two weeks. I wonder if your body thinks you need little sleep.

Unfortunately I cannot offer a magic wand to cure your insomnia but I wish you well. We are always here for a chat and to offer support, take care
