feeling cut inside vagina

I have recurring UTIs - Hiprex medication helped a lot but was advised not long term use. Recently prescribed antibiotic for UTI but it feels more like an irritation in vagina - am 73 years of age and gynaecologist has me on list for bladder instillation which I am reluctant about. Any advice please. I was thinking of trying UROMUNE vaccine to help limit infections.

🙂 This link refers to Uromune..

a sublingual vaccine sprayed under the tongue to prevent urinary tract infection. MV140, or as it's known as a trade name Uromune,

I am having a telephone consultation with consultant on 25th to discuss using Uromune as I’m from Northern Ireland and it’s not available here - I hope this treatment will be effective for me as I’m at my wits end. Seemingly consultant will post the treatment to me if he considers it will be suitable - someone told me it’s more for younger women and I don’t know how true that is as I’m 73 years old

UTIs are awful, even aside from this extra symptom you have. I sincerely hope you have positive help asap.

I don’t know if there is an age ‘restriction’ with Uromone..but obviously your Consultant will advise.

I cope with frequency, a Specialist prescribed Vagifem for me.. I’m reluctant to even try it because I’ve had Grade3 breast cancer…My Oncologist said ‘it could recur anywhere, anytime, very quickly’

🤔I wonder if Vagifem aggravated ‘something’.. and that’s why you had such a reaction.

Have you considered using a vaginal oestrogen cream like Ovestin? The irritation could be related to dryness and to fragility in the tissues due to a lack of Oestrogen post menopause Often UTI symptoms can be improved too Worth a try?

Vagifem may not suit you, there are many others to try and also a mild steroid cream can work wonders. Atrophy causes bladder and urethra symptoms. I take Ospemifene which is an oral tablet and it’s really cured the problem.

I used Ovestin with all sorts of problems, including burning and rash on my thigh, my GP changed me to Vagirux vaginal tablets which has proved to be a lot better. I told the GP I thought I must have been allergic to one of the ingredients in Ovestin and also found the insertion tube very sharp and scratchy.
