Suspected shingles & upcoming surgery

For the past 4 days I’ve had a shooting pain in the back of my thigh, a pain that I’ve never experienced before. I’d also been feeling really run down and fatigued. Today a red blotchy rash has come up on the site of the pain, started off a bit itchy and as the day has progressed it’s now very tender and sore.

I’m due to have open surgery to remove a very large fibroid on Monday 17th.

My question is, would my surgery be cancelled if I make them aware? Apparently it’s only contagious when it’s weeping and if it’s in an area that’s exposed, my rash is below my right bottom cheek/top thigh wrapping in so easily covered up. Could I cause a rush to myself or others if I go ahead with the op?

Thanks for reading x

It could be shingles, in which case they won't operate I wouldn't think. See your GP or at least phone the hospital and discuss it with them . If it is, then your immune system will be compromised, and you need to be in tip top healthier to have procedure done. There are tablets your gP can give you to help.

Good luck.
