Hello. I was anxious about this I have lots of pain when they do examinations. However, I went ahead - awake - it was amazingly ok. And did take ten mins. For context I have stage IV endo and adeno and cysts and was very anxious. We are all different of course re pain and anxiety but I read around and lots of people talking about their experiences -tbh mostly not good. But I wanted to share a positive story. It was ok. Much much better than I feared. I spoke with the consultant about my fears and they reassured me. So go easy on yourself but it will help them rule stuff out. Try and enjoy today as much as you can and know you will make the right decision for you.

Hi there, please put this to the back of your mind today (I know this is easier said than done).

I had a hysteroscopy and was told it would be local anaesthetic but I told my Consultant that I have a low pain threshold and suffer from panic attacks. She said "Oh, that's ok, we'll put you under (general anesthesia), don't worry"!

If you are able to phone the hospital and explain your situation, unless there's a reason for them insisting on local, I'm sure they would change to general.

I can’t even face general terrified of not waking up feel so depressed

I really think you need to speak to the consultant if you can't face the surgery.

I had dental surgery and knew I'd probably have a panic attack so the dentist suggested a prescription for valium and music as a distraction. This helped plus having calm and compassionate staff around me.

I think you need to convince yourself that all will be well. It's for your own health and wellbeing. I wish you all the best ❤️

I don’t think I will cope with anything will just see if there’s anything else that they can do because I know if I am put asleep I won’t wake up

You need to speak to someone about your feelings. Say to yourself that you are going to put it out of your mind over the festive season and call the hospital on Tuesday morning. Worrying about it will make you more stressed. Is there a family member or friend who can support you at the moment?

I had a hysteroscopy in July. I was having check for post memopausal bleeding and had a couple of tummy scans then saw the consultant who suggested I should have hysteroscopy there and then. I didnt know what it was but I agreed. It was uncomfortable and embarrasding, and a dull ache like bad period pain when he was taking samples, but was only for seconds and I could stand it. Im not brave and have needle phobia - the blood test was the worst thing for me. I had to have hysterectomy by keyhole surgery and that was ok apart from the blood tests!

Hi Natz36. I am getting a hysteroscopy on Tuesday by general anaesthetic as cervix too closed and would be painful as doctor said. You should ask for general anaesthetic and it will be over and done in half an hour. At least I might know what’s causing the bleeding and pelvic pain

Take carex

Hi sorry for late reply but how did it go for you please ? The gynaecologist said he will give me another scan as I’ve refused the hysteroscopy for now I just can’t face it at all x hope it went well and your recovering well x

Hi Nate. Hysteroscopy was ok under general anaesthetic. A wee bit pain after hysteroscopy. Couldn’t have gone through it without general anaesthetic.had bleeding for about a week. They think it’s vaginal atrophy lining of the womb. Doctor took 2 biopsies but will be another 2 weeks to get results as behind with COVID. Pain a lot better. Why did u refuse hysteroscopy. Didn’t they offer under general anaesthetic. ?Let me know how u get on . Mines a waiting game but doctor thinks all okxx

Hi Natz. Doctor tried an internal at outpatients but they said it would be too painful for me to get hysteroscopy at outpatients as top of my cervix was closed and probably a wee bit older than you aged 64 and that can happen as you age but I would have still had general anaesthetic anyway as heard can be really painful under outpatients. Have had general anaesthetic before for breast cancer and honestly nothing to be afraid off. Don’t know if this reply will go after other one. Take carexx

Aww thanks so much lovely. I’m sorry to hear regarding breast cancer and I know I’m just worried about being out asleep for silly reason like not waking up or having an allergic reaction. Yes I think I need to speak to the gynaecologist and see if he will make an appointment for me too speak to the gynaecologist team face too face so I can tell them my worries etc . I am 37 so hopefully if I have local I’ll be okay at the moment I’m low on iron and trying to boost my levels so I’d be worried about the bleeding afterwards. I will probably need a few more months if I go ahead with procedure due to having low iron . Once iron levels are safe then I will probably be okay to have it done . Good luck and keep me updated that it’s all okay the biopsy x

I will let you know what the gynaecologist says if he contacts me again x
