Losing weight with an underactive thyroid can be problematic and it isn't always suggested, an easily treated condition. Might be worth looking on here to find information thyroiduk.healthunlocked.com/ and thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/in...

I've learnt not to eat any products with soya in, brassicas and a whole lot more. I just wish I knew how to lose weight more readily.

If you have a problem, presumably you are taking medication for it. That being the case, it should be reviewed annual to make sure the medication working.

So if your thyroid working at the right level, it should not affect you trying to lose weight. Beware of using this as an excuse. I know I tried that but the nurse at our practice soon put me right!

Eating healthily should help us to lose weight and improve our general health as it involves eating the things that are good for us but importantly not eating too much of them.

I know that my problem is eating and drinking too much and not enough exercise.

Most people with an under active thyroid are not on the right amount of medication, even after years of treatment on the NHS. I have eaten a healthy diet all my life but since health problems have hampered me the weight has crept up. A slow metabolism means everything slows down and your basal temperature is low making you cold, almost hypothermic in some cases. I agree good diet and exercise are important but it's not always that easy.

Not what you're looking for?
