So I am 41 years old and I've been overweight most of my adult life.
I suffer with binge eating and have done for as long as I can remember.
I chose to eat for any occasion - happy or sad and life seems to revolve around meals, snacks and generally being unhealthy so it's time to make some changes.
I don't want to get into my 50's still feeling like this so it's time to get it under control now so that by the time I hit the big 5-0 I am in maintenance and managing my eating better.
I need to weigh myself and take measurements which I will do soon.
I'm just eating my way through all the bad food I've got at home - I can't bring myself to throw it out.
Also going to keep an actual food diary because this does help me.

Yes, keeping a food diary helps me, too, and when I let it slip I see the consequences
We have a daily diary where members log their food (and other) plans: have a look at that, see what members are up to and join in when you're ready. We also have a weigh-in post and plenty more. Have a look at the Jumpstart January Challenge: it's just started its third week but it doesn't matter, you can join in whenever you like with your own, personal challenges for this month.
Stop watching your weight and instead watch your figure. The unhealthiest thing about being overweight is the fat around your tummy. and as long as that is reducing you're on the right track. If you're exercising you'll be developing muscle which is more dense so it may not be changing your weight although your body fat is still reducing and you are getting healthier.
Well done on your choice. I've just turned 51 and am dieting. All the advice given already is great advice, I would also add taking photos of yourself front and side on then repeat a few months later. When you see what you have lost it will spur you on. Also don't look at food as the enemy? just need to swap somethings .
