Slowly does it!

9 years ago I joined this group for support in losing some weight. I didn’t succeed. I only put on more weight, an extra 5kg.

But in August 2020, my 58th birthday, I had an appointment at the hospital. It was a follow up after finding cancerous cells during a hysterectomy. I weighed 87.7kg, which for me at 156cm was a little too heavy. The nurse very encouragingly (not) said that I’d never be able to lose any weight now!

So, the challenge was set. 2 years 7 months later I have now lost 21kg. I lost the weight very very slowly. I have had to buy new clothes. My BMI is 27.4. I know some will say I still need to lose more weight but I’m happy with me as I am.

I just wanted to say to anyone who needs to know that even snail pace loss eventually adds up. If I continue to lose 100g a week for the next year I will get to a BMI of 24.9, but I am currently enjoying hot cross buns and looking forward to Easter eggs on Sunday!

Thank you to everyone who has made comments in the past to encourage me along the way.

It's so great to read a success story. I'm sure many of us will benefit from it, thank you.

It would also be nice to see you around, sharing your meal plans in daily diary healthunlocked.com/weight-l... or perhaps popping to our Maintainers Club healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

everything can be easily found in our healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

Very happy to hear that you are happy with yourself!

we’ll done. That’s a great way of proving that anything can be done, especially when you’re told it can’t. You sound a very confident person and proud of what you have achieved. Again, well done. 👍

Good morning mld78. I really enjoyed reading your story, there's nothing like being told you can't do something to get one firing on all cylinders. That nurse could do with a cylinder shoved somewhere the sun don't shine!

I also believe in letting the weight come off slowly. It's safer that way, especially if there are underlying health conditions such as I have.

I tend to agree with N-o-r-d-I, it would be wonderful if you could see your way clear to providing some inspiration on Daily Diary, for example. I have no doubt it would be very helpful for so many of us. Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you. I'm not really sure how to communicate well.

All I did was have one slice of toast at breakfast (instead of 2), have a sandwich at lunch made with 1 slice of bread, and an apple and a homemade biscuit. At dinner time I have stuck to 100g of uncooked protein or 50g of cheese, eggs, or pulses together with 78g of carbohydrates & 2, 3 or 4 veg. I also enjoyed the occasional pieces of cake, a latte, McDonalds, and other treats (I do call a Filet of Fish at McDs a treat!).

I weighed myself every week, some good weeks, others went the wrong way, but over 30 months I have lost 21kg and have gone from a size 16 to a size 12.
