I haven't posted for weeks,Im eating all the wrong things .Not excercising other than walking to and from the office ,I was doing well and managed to get down to within a few pounds to where I needed to be .

A number of people I know have passed away since before Christmas and I think this has affected me .

Everyone has glitches and sometimes we turn to food for comfort and convenience. You post sometimes about the holidays you have . Would you consider say a walking holiday where you could combine the sun with a bit of exercise. Might not be a bad thing just to get away for a week or so and come back having had a week or so of relaxation and a plan of what approach you can take plus the weather isn’t a great motivator at the moment .

Let us all know how you get on. It isn’t a bad thing to overeat for a few weeks as you have acknowledged what you have been doing and returning to the forum is a positive start. Don’t do any drastic changes. Food can still be enjoyable even when we plan and portion it .

Thanks focused1, I think once I get out on a more regular basis then I will feel a lot better.I am looking at trying to run to work one day which will set me up for the day .

I think that the dark hours seem to have been with us for ages ,previously I would have gone out anytime of the day .

I have a half marathon at the end of March so I have to start doing some miles soon.

Thanks for your reply .

2 of my sons doing the Manchester Marathon in April in under 4 hours. I admire runners - I just can’t do it . Agreed dark days are too long . I have felt it this winter . Finally had my gall bladder surgery after 17 month wait so weight piling on as can’t exercise. Mindful eating alone doesn’t keep my weight at maintenance level anymore . I need strenuous Zumba and long long walks . Bought a bike but hate it .

gman1961 profile image
gman1961Restart April 2024 in reply tofocused1

Good luck to them ,It was about 40 years ago when I managed a marathon

I do enjoy my running once I start to get out there ,I do love the light mornings so hopefully I can rebuild what I was doing before ..

That's a long wait for surgery ,I've never done Zumba ,I have a bike but need two new tyres.I have a rowing machine that just needs to be used again.

I’m so pleased you are back with us gman1961 …you’ve been missed more than you probably realise. You’ve been through a tough time and responded in the same way as so many of us do…you’re only human after all. Spring is around the corner which will give us all a lift. Sending positive thoughts to you.🌼

Hi Gary I agree with Alideer you’ve definitely been missed. A number of times in the recent weeks I’ve read and re- read all the posts thinking I’d missed your post so it’s really great to see you back on here. Think this winter has affected more of us than ever before with covid and flu to avoid catching plus the dark nights which gave seemed endless. The snowdrops are starting to grow in neighbour’s garden so spring not far away.

Forget the last six weeks and make a new start you have made the effort to come on here so why not post your weight today and see how you get on. You’ve got a half marathon to work towards so start your running seriously again. We are all behind you and Monday is as good a day as any to start a new chapter in your life . You already know about the support and encouragement you’ll get from the members on here so what are you waiting for ?

Looking forward to you being a member on here again supporting us all as we will support you …..onwards and downwards . All the best to you on your weight loss journey . Sue

Brilliant news Gary that you will post your weight today. OH and I always went for a walk round the block every afternoon if we were at home but that’s disappeared. Must start to have a walk around again . It must be so easy when you’ve got in from work and it’s dark and cold to stay in and do nothing . Hopefully you’ll get your mojo back when the weather improves and the evenings get lighter. Have a lovely week . Sue

I have found overeaters anonymous very helpful, lots of support and people who have lost weight and kept it off long term. You can go to zoom meetings these days and dont even have to show your face if you dont want to. I have found when I work the steps they suggest I dont even need willpower, I lose interest in excess food. I have lost 30 pounds so far.

Thank you for your inspiration this morning gman - I too lost someone last year and it blew me off course for quite a while - I have only recently begun to get a grip on my weight gain in the aftermath, and even now, I am pretty much where I was a year ago - so frustrating.

But reading your words this morning, and in admiration of your strength and courage in posting today, I have pledged to myself to weigh in again this week, whatever. So thank you :)

I hope you get your mojo back soon. I have no doubt that getting going again - literally, as you prep for your marathon - can only help. All those endorphins speeding around together with longer days and the return of the sun - all so good for our karma (and our bods)!

Welcome back Gary, I don’t post very regularly, but I read all the posts and I did wonder where you had been!

How strange that you got so close to your goal weight and then sabotaged it (albeit temporarily I am sure) is there a pattern here I wonder? I had a friend who has done this twice over losing a great deal of weight, coming within 6/8lbs of where she needed to be, then beginning to put the weight back on. I am no psychologist but I did wonder in her case what was actually stopping her getting to the point where her weight did not have to trouble her to the same extent, did she in fact need to have ‘worrying about her weight’ as a significant issue in her life - I don’t know…but I observed it as being really strange for this to have happened twice. I have lost touch with her now unfortunately, she was a work colleague at an old job, but often wondered if she ever achieved her full amount of weight loss.

Anyway, it sounds like you are in a good headspace to get back on track now so good luck with it - you will smash it I am sure.

Xx

Hi. Good to see you back. A lot of us have struggled with the miserable weather and short dark days. Adding the deaths to that makes it very hard but you know you will get lots of support here and you have made the right decision.

Spring is round the corner and the days are getting longer. I hope you can get out for some runs to prepare for your half marathon. The exercise will make you feel better and help with the weight loss and getting back on track.

Maybe plan some healthy meals for this week to get you started and post them on the daily diary. Also come over and see us on the weigh in and post your start weight.

Hope to see you there and making a fresh start.

Hi Gary it's lovely to see you back. Sometimes I begin activities then for 1 reason/excuse or another I just stop doing it. I've found that giving myself very precise boundaries I keep things together. Up until now my biggest success is the cat's litter boxes, they have to be done on 2 precise mornings a week 🙀 I've applied that rule to the NHS 5 week get fit plan ,too easy for you but the principle is the same. I have to do those exercises on 3 definite mornings every week!

Please keep looking in,there are loads of shoulders to lean on :)

This is not a good time of year as far as losing friends colleagues and relatives! You're probably suffering a bit from SAD (as well) so don't stop the walking! I feel for you, last week I heard that 3 long term colleagues had died and it certainly doesn't make anyone feel very jolly. it will take time to come to terms with it but as so may people here have said, you've got people to talk to on this forum. When you are in the mood, you'll be able to motivate yourself and do what you've done before - you know you can do it! Everyone here is rooting for you. Take care of yourself.

hey Gary - nice to see you back. I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time atm. It can be really hard to find the motivation. Have some self compassion for all that you’re dealing with and take it a day at a time and a step at a time. You’re doing great. I lost my gran just before Christmas and the grief comes in waves. I try and just take a breath and do what I can and not be too hard if it all goes to pot! We’re all here for you if you need to get stuff off your chest etc. hang in there xx

Hi Gary so sorry to hear that you have been feeling so down lately and being in a rut. But you have made that first step by getting back on here and opening up. Many of us have been there so we understand how you are feeling. But looking at all these posts shows that you are truly missed and how everyone wants to help you get back up, dusted off and starting again. Tiny steps are the way to go and bit by bit you will get there. Great to see you back here and try that run for one a week to work.
