It has been a few strange weeks flitting around all over the place and trying to keep on top of all the jobs at work and at home. I sometimes feel like I need a break, want to go somewhere, and scream. Surely many of you have felt this way when the pressures of life are greater than the time you have for life itself.
The good news is that although my weight has crept up a pound or two, and then back down again, I am still down to the lightest I have been in sixteen years, so the song that came to mind was “Holding Back the Years” by Simply Red.
Apart from Mick Hucknall’s amazing voice, the particular video that goes with this track is set in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The town I was born in was Redcar, literally twenty minutes up the coast from Whitby, and I have cycled many times to Whitby, or gone for lunch in Whitby too many times to mention. On top of this, two chapters from Bram Stokes Dracula are set in Whitby too, and this is one of my many favourite books. As an aside they actually have a gravestone for Dracula in the church near Whitby Abbey which makes me laugh on two counts: Dracula is a fictional character, according to the book his demise is in Transylvania.
Enough though. I am due some holidays soon, so my life is going to get back on track, honest.
Have a great week, whatever you are doing.

Holding back the years
Thinking of the fear I've had so long
When somebody hears
Listen to the fear that's gone
Strangled by the wishes of pater
Hoping for the arms of mater
Get to me the sooner or later, oh
***
Holding back the tears
Chance for me to escape from all I know
Holding back the tears
'Cause nothing here has grown
I've wasted all my tears
Wasted all those years
Nothing had the chance to be good
Nothing ever could, yeah, oh
***
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on, so tight
***
Well I've wasted all my years
Wasted all of those years
And nothing had the chance to be good
'Cause nothing ever could, oh yeah
Oh
***
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
***
Holding
Holding
Holding
Holding, la-la-la, la, la-la
***
I said, ooh, yeah
***
That's all I have today
It's all I have to say
