Hi

I've been at this 3 weeks and I've counted my calories each day. But I've lost only 1 pound. I've lost inches. I've never dieted before and not sure what I'm doing wrong. My BMI says I'm obese so I would have thought i would have lost some wieght.

Hi and welcome, LisaPerez :)

The number on the scales isn't the only measure to show that things are working and those inches lost prove that.

It's difficult for us to give accurate advice, without knowing more about you. If you log your meal plans on the daily diary, we can suggest changes that could be made. Have you got an accurate calorie range using the NHS BMI calculator? Eating too little can e as bad as eating too much nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

Calorie counting doesn't work for everyone and here are a couple of things for you to look at:

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi Lisa, if you are loosing inches off the tape measure at the moment I wouldn’t worry about the scales. One pound is still a great loss, you should be congratulating yourself. May be you are exercising and toning up and building muscle which does weigh more. Just think if you lost a pound a week for 7 weeks you would be half a stone lighter. If you have a lot of weight to loose I would set small achievable goals. Concentrate on the first half a stone. If you are a women and still have periods that could be a reason, many women weigh more when they are menstruating. It’s a loss and a great loss, keep it up and you will see results. Good luck

Aw your welcome, you can do this! 😊

Hi LisaPerez If you have lost inches that is fantastic, and you are obviously doing something right. I know how frustrating it feels if the scales don't go down, but now it is more important than ever to keep up the good work. You will probably see the scales go down very suddenly one day! Your body is still 're-organising' itself and adjusting to your new eating habits so hang in there and it will all come right!

Hi LisaPerez , how are you counting the calories? If it’s with an app make sure you’re logging correctly.

Something that caught me out at the start was cooked vs uncooked weight. I thought I could eat loads of pasta and rice... but was logging uncooked weight, which was much lighter because of all the water they absorb!

Hi, thanks for the tip, I'll have a look at that. I'm logging it through my Fitbit app.

Hi LisaPerez. Inches down is a result in itself. With the fitbit app, keep an eye on the food balance as well as it is easy for calories to be low and carbs high which many of us find prevents loss.

Ok will do. Is there a set amount of calories for carbs I should have in a day or is it just try to keep them low?

Are you using the NHS Easy Meals App by any chance? If so, you might like to check the calories count they give. Some of the menus are qute a way out

I am for my evening meal. I will start putting in the ingredients in that case rather than the over all amount. Cant believe that's wrong 🤦‍♀️

There are quite a few that ae and I have contacted them but got no response. A really bad one is the Banana and Apricot Bagels for breakfast. It says 244 cals but a bagle is 225 and a half banana is 52, then the cheese is 32. without the apricots it's over 300!!!
