I'd got myself really fit, cycled to work every day and had just started running and had pushed to be able to run 10k in a go - slowly but surely.
I have asthma and at the end of last year, ended up in hospital with pneumonia. It's taken me SO long to recover. I still always feel like I need to have a nap after any exercise.
I started on the fitness train again in June. Got back to 5k running and then my ankle gave up!
We've had a long holiday in France and I even managed to drag myself all the way up to the top of Alpe d'Huez (very slowly) only to be hit by a 2 week quarantine...
Now that's over, I'm determined to get fit again and hoping for no more reasons to put it off! Starting a new job on Tuesday as well, though and struggle to keep two priorities in focus.
I've never been skinny, hovering usually around a BMI of 24.5 when I feel in shape but it's crept up to nearly 27.
We're thinking of trying to conceive and I want to give any baby the best possible chance as I'm no longer a spring chicken myself!
Really hoping this forum can help! Especially when I feel like I'm doing really well and think that I can stop trying so hard!
XXX good luck and best wishes to everyone on their journeys xxx

It sounds as though you have the exercise sewn up. You'd be very welcome at our Fit is Fun club: there's a new post each Monday for members to share their exercise for the previous week and talk about what they're planning.
I don't know if you have a plan in mind re eating but this is a good, straightforward one phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...
You'll find all our groups and activities in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... , plus a Welcome message. A good place to start is with a weekly weigh-in on the day of your choice, and the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans.
This gives you a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true and, along with Pinned Posts, will show you how things work. Active participation can be a great boost to your own efforts so I hope you'll become an active member and we will see you joining in around the forum 😊
PS the app doesn’t give access to all parts of the forum so we advise everyone to get rid of the app and log on to the full website using the browser on their phone
I know I should have exercise sewn up - I know how and when I can do it and how to build it into my day but I'm scared and insecure. I'm starting a new job. Cycling to work every day or even 3x a week would be ideal but I'm scared of failing at work. I still feel like napping every time I exercise. Even today, I had a 9 hour sleep, was up for an hour and fell asleep on the sofa! (I think my b12 is out of whack after pretty much eating my bodyweight in cheese, bread and Lidl pastries for 4 weeks so I'm back on supplements)
I wanted to spend these past two weeks practising the route and getting into a routine. I can't have a nap at my desk, the kids would eat me alive!
Ever since being in hospital, I feel exhausted.
Fit is fun does seem to be a good way of holding myself accountable!
I always use MFP to map calories and started the NHS app today to monitor waist size (wish they'd add belly as well)
Really wanted to join the fora for the additional support, especially to keep going. I tend to give up too early.
Hi cyclogoose, just wondered if you could get a telephone appointment with your gp to discuss your tiredness, your gp may just prescribe iron tablets or may want to actually do a full blood work, just to see what’s going on. I’m sure it would be best to chat to your doctor or nurse before trying to get fit. I personally wouldn’t worry about the exercise for now, not if you are feeling that tired. I would concentrate on your diet and try and get plenty of iron rich foods a nice bit of steak would be my preference great source of iron. You can always get back to the exercise once you are feeling well. You can still loose weight with just dieting. Just be kind to yourself as pneumonia can take a while to get over, also when you have your flu jab if you haven’t already have a pneumococcal vaccine I had one years ago and it really helped, I’m guessing you may have already had one but incase you haven’t I’d ask for one. Please be kind to yourself take care And stay well best wishes to you.
I'm guessing it's my b12 rather than iron. Did a lot of chatting about my blood work a while ago with my gp. Nothing ever seems to be quite conclusive but that seems the best bet.
Didn't really follow a routine whilst away so back on my vitamin supplements and hoping it will really help. I'm veggie (+occasional fish) so not juicy steak for me! I eat bags of spinach though 🤣
I do need to exercise, it's more important for me to be fit than thin. I want to improve my vo2 max etc and feel more buzzing with life! I'm just really frustrated that I've lost these last two weeks. The tiredness is likely to be a hurdle I need to ease myself over.
Pneumonia was 8 months ago now so ive just got to build up. So much easier to establish a routine at the start of a school year but I know not to over do it so I might just try cycling once a week to start with and build up.
Just got to find a balance.
I'd go crazy on a net calories of 1200 if I didn't exercise! That's why I've ended up working out 😂
Sorry I didn’t realise you were a vegetarian, as you occasionally eat fish , just wondering if you eat eggs, they are quite a good sauce of b12 as is broccoli although I’m guessing you already know that. If taking a supplement doesn’t help I would be back on the phone to your gp as sometimes you need injections of b12 particularly if it is very low. I understand your passion to want to get fit, although I personally would get the b12 sorted and take tentative steps with the exercise. I wish you well and good luck in your new job.
Thank you, so kind! I definitely noticed a boost when I had my b12 before and I'll take a big dose to boost me up before levelling off.
I'm just really bad for stopping my good habits as soon as they become effective - I forget I need to keep it up to keep feeling good! I'm the same with my inhaler and it's blooming stupid. I guess I just forget about it when I feel great!
Yes I completely understand that, I’m the same with my inhalers although I’m trying to make my preventative a big habit, kept in the fridge next to the jug of cold water, hoping that will help!😊blue one no problem as that’s right by my hand when I exercise and start wheezing. Hope all goes well for you. 😊
Same, though I'm allowed to use my pink one when exercising as well now.
The lack of structure of the summer holidays also aids me in forgetting 😂 At least I've got the doc to give me two months at a time now because that was the worst - I'd run out and not find the right moment to get a new one!
Got all my supplements lined up In the kitchen. Hopefully the idea of creating a good inner environment for a wee baby will be the incentive I need!
Yes the Fostair seems a smaller inhaler then other preventative ones, unless they do different size! they can’t give you too much in advance as you have to use it up inside 3 months! Although that’s easy done! Take care
I just wanted to say, "hello and welcome" and "you've come to the right place" this forum is great. Good luck on your health and fitness journey...and of course, having a baby ♡
Thanks so much! It's definitely great to have a vaguely anonymous group of people who can support you. I'm not sure I want to tell many/any people in real life that we might start trying to conceive soon - it's all very scary and obviously so uncertain.
Good luck with yours too and thanks again for your support!
Awww congratulations! I'm not medically 'geriatric' just yet - 33 nearly 34 but there's never a guarantee and we don't 'get busy' all that often... General consensus is that a year to conceive is likely and that's just fine with us. I'm just starting a new job, too so I have the guilt of wanting to do a year... We're not trying actively yet, just not trying to not get pregnant 😂
My SIL has pcos - they had my niece when she was 16 but haven't been able to have a second baby. She's not even 30 yet.
Thanks so much for sharing and I'm thrilled you got your baby boy xxx
Hi, I've just seen your reference to PCOS. Has your consultant advised you about the appropriate diet? Here's some information and apologies if it's duplicating what you already know
Thank you! I don't think diary is for me - I do track on mfp but I get lunch with the kids at school and I've not worked there before so not sure what exactly I'll be eating but I'll be making healthy choices!
