When I started calorie counting (I've moved on from that now) I bought a notebook and had pages for meat/fish, veg, dairy etc. With each new ingredient I used, I googled "100g of X" and saved it in my notebook for future reference. It soon built up. I also worked out cals in meals that I cooked regularly and saved that in my notebook.
The best way I found of getting support from this forum was joining a weekly weigh in. The team support was wonderful and really made me feel a part of a warm community. I can recommend it. Why not join the Wednesday Wobble Warriors? You'll have a warm welcome.
I don't think I ever posted but I came here most days, read posts and asked questions and encouraged others and that also made me feel part of the forum.
I can’t remember if I said this last time (sorry if I’m repeating myself!) I found the Hairy Dieters cookbooks invaluable for ideas, easy to cook, family favourites and all calorie counted for you. Also a great recipe app called Kitchen Stories has hundreds of fabulous recipes, all calorie counted, but also interactive so you can adjust the amount of ingredients according to how many you are cooking for.
Have the Hairy Dieters book on recipe shelf. Enjoyed the Lasagna using leeks instead of pasta. It helps to write down what you eat and the calorie value. Have various dietary books. Did the 5:2 for quite a while. Hubby encouraged as weight is coming off. Getting on static bike most days. Not overdoing it. Just being positive.
