Hi there, I am a young minded female and now retired, I have been active all my life. I now have a prolapsed bladder and would like any tips on how to manage this.

Also, I would like to know how to portion control and eat sensibly since I am not as active as I was. My hobbies are writing, drawing and painting. I am interested in finding out how others cope with the weight. Since becoming less active I have gained three and a half stones. I would love to know the secrets of how to lose this weight and be my slim self again. :) Wimbi

Hello and welcome, Wimbi 😊

As this is a peer to peer support group, we won't be able to advise about management of your bladder condition. I hope you're getting advice and care from your GP or other medical team and do go back to them if you're struggling.

You'll find members here following a variety of different plans and they'll be happy to answer your questions. In my time here, I've learned a lot, and un-learned a lot of what I knew before :) I have lowered carbohydrates, particularly bread, cereal, potatoes, pasta and rice, increased my veg and stopped worrying about healthy fats which give our food so much flavour. Going for real food, home cooked is a good start, and avoiding anything labelled low fat or light or diet, as they have all been heavily processed.

This is a busy place with loads of support and information to help you on your way and we've put everything you need into this Welcome Newbies post. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members log their meal plans and get useful feedback.

Please also read this information about security/privacy, especially as you have left your post unlocked healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

To make the most of the forum, join in with activities, read and reply to posts, ask questions and encourage others – it will all pay off for you 😊

Hi, Wimbi , welcome.

I am 70, and I lost four and a half stone.

I was a technical author, but now I write as a "hobby" - mostly here!

Weight loss is not all about motivation and masochism - if you "slim smart" it is not so hard!

Many of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
