I'm new here and looking for ideas / tips to break the sugar habit.

Hi all - just joined as fed up with my sugar addiction. I've lost weight twice in the past with Slimming World but can never maintain the loss:( plus I don't want to go back as the classes are so big and time consuming and costly. I'm looking forward to learning how other members manage to break the cycle of sugar cravings and getting in to the habit of cooking simple but healthy meals. I've added an image of I how feel and will change to something else when / if I reach my target.

I'm kicking the sugar habit too - I decided the best way to go about it would be to cut out all sugar and sweeteners for 2 weeks, then allow little bits back into my diet. I ended up extending it to 3 weeks, because I was still finding the cravings tough.

I just finished the 3 week ban at the weekend, and now I'm trying to avoid sugar unless it's a special occasion or unavoidable (I.e. dinner out). I've found it really easy to be honest, there were days I was really irritated, and I still crave sweet things after dinner, but I am getting over it.

The tips I picked up were to take a Chromium supplement, and to eat lots of good fats and protein. I've been having lots of cheese, nuts and nut butters. I lost 7lbs in 3 weeks despite having 6 dinners out (inc. a world buffet).

Wow...I would be so happy to lose 7lb! I'll give the Chromium a go, thanks for the tips:)

My OH just weighed himself this morning and he's lost 7lbs too. He has cut out about 90% of his sugar, but he eats in his work canteen, so can't avoid it completely. We're both shocked to be fair. like I say, we've had lots of meals out, and he's had a few beers too. We're still eating quite a lot of food generally. I'm not calorie counting yet - I wanted to get past my sugar cravings first, then I'll cut back on snacks.

Hi MsBlobby

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the pinned post section on the right hand side or at the bottom if on a mobile. The post contains the nhs 12 week plan and a BMI checker to work out your daily calories allowance.

Feel free to join in with any of the challenges also found in the pinned post section. They are excellent for keeping us on track and motivated.

We run daily weigh-ins which you can find on the home page in the Events section. At the moment most of our weigh-ins are full but we do have spaces on Sunday. On your first weigh in please say your starting weight, what you have lost / gained / maintained and your goal for the week.

Have a look at the Topics just below the pinned posts, there are lots of information on healthy eating and exercise together with recipes and stories from members of the forum.

Enjoy your first week.

hi and welcome to the forum... all of us on here are following different diets and have different ideas on the best way to lose weight but we all support each other no matter what so you've come to the right place to start your weight loss journey & it's FREE !

I'm following a low carb diet and have cut out white bread/white pasta/white rice /white potatoes... basically white carbs !

I plan my meal around protein, fat & veg now and find I'm not hungry anymore and don't feel bloated and also found that my sugar craving has naturally decreased.. I exercise every day and think that has a powerful effect on your mind as I used to think "If I exercise i can eat some chocolate cos I've been good" ... but I now think "I'm exercising to get healthy & toned and it feels good"...

Good luck with starting your diet x

Hi,

This may look a bit contrary... but you may try this if nothing else works.

1. Firstly accept that its okay to like sugar.

2. Accept the fact that you love sugar, and its an okay feeling to have.

3. Try mindful eating... its a permanent cure for all eating problems..

zenhabits.net/what-is-mindf...

4. I am completely into Mindful Eating and i have found that I am loving every bit of food.

5. I eat everything, when I feel like.. only in mindful quantities.

6. I love all sugary stuff, but I have it only occasionally.

7. Get rid of all sugary stuff from your room/home

8. Keep some fruits handy nearby, and whenever you feel the urge to eat sweet, take a fruit.

9. Whenever you feel like to eat junk, drink a glass of water.

10. Dream of a great figure for yourself.... keep dreaming,... day in and day out.

ALL THE BEST :)
