Hello, Suffshire, and welcome to the forum 😊

Many of us have been happy to discover that it's not so much about willpower but choice of foods. Sugar and a diet high in carbohydrates leaves us craving more so it's not willpower so much as physiology.

This welcome pack explains how the forum works and how to find your way around healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please take your time reading it so you get the best out of your time here.

You'll find a list of all our activities on the daily chat thread here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice.

Hi, Suffshire , Welcome.

You do not have to worry about your target weight now - just make a start.

Have you dieted before?

do you snack/binge all day?

Hi, thank you for replying! I am definitely a binger - if I stray off track I immediately think I have failed so just eat more - it’s almost like I punish myself by making myself eat more 😒

Hi Suffshire

This forum is great start. Couple tips I got when I joined ManVFat was drink 2 litres cold water per day and keep food diary every day.

The water keeps body hydrated and lowers hunger and on its own can lead to loss of 1 stone over a year.

Food diary - don't cheat - can be done via phone app or on paper.

I'm sure with encouragement from people here you'll crack it.

Hi there, welcome aboard 😊

There is plenty of advice and different methods on here, it’s just finding the best fit for you, also you will get a ton of support.

I kick started with a smaller target of 7lb on the Easter Challenge, now I’m doing the Summer Challenge - it’s just what works best for you. I know I’ve to lose 2 stone but I find the smaller targets best for me. Please find out your BMI on the NHS website as you will be allowed a calorie range that fits you, it takes into account your age/sex/height etc. I was allowed over 1800 to start with which was brilliant because I wasn’t denying myself anything if I juggled my meal plans about - if I tried to stick to the 1200 on most diets I would have failed very quickly. The lose it app is also excellent for logging all that you eat/drink, I was very honest on it and it was shocking to see the patterns I had gotten into... wine =snacks 😳

Good luck 😉

I have lost almost 5 stones so far what has worked for me is to have a high protein diet low in carbs and sugar and using fitness pal. I just try to loose a pound then I ease up for a week or two maintain that weight loss then try and loose another pound it is very slow but it is working. I avoid bread and rarely eat potatoes. I also try to walk at least 3 miles a day.

You'll get much better results if you add some fat to your diet. Unlike obligate carnivores, humans have a very inefficient pathway for converting protein to energy. While it's technically possible to lose weight on a high-protein diet, you're putting unnecessary stress on your kidneys and spending more money than you need to (a lot of that protein just gets converted to glucose). Adding fat will improve your rate of weight loss and you'll probably find that you feel better.
