Couscous is a simple carb, with a nutritional value similar to white pasta.

Quinoa is a superior carbohydrate compared to couscous. It has 17 grams of carbohydrate in 100g.

The glycaemic number of quinoa is 53 which is considered very low.

It could be better, which is why I suggested the quinoa :)

is all quinoa the same or is there a particular type that’s better, also are there any other type of foods similar that would be a great option for lunch and dinner

You can get wholewheat cous cous, which is slightly better, but if you're wanting to watch your carbs, then I would plump for quinoa, or bulgur wheat, or take soup and oatcakes, or salad, or crustless quiche.

You can get all the carbs you need from veggies, so you don't actually need to add any other. Root veg, butternut squash and sweet potatoes and beans from dried, are better than white potatoes and pasta.

Have you logged onto tomorrow's daily diary, for some ideas, or looked at the recipes in Topics?

You're at the beginning so making any changes in the right direction will help. If you've done your veg couscous now, do you think it's a better option than you would usually have gone for? Maybe it has more veg than you would usually have. Have a look for quinoa when you do your next shop and see how you get on with that :)

The problem with the simple carbohydrates like pasta, rice, bread and potatoes is how they turn to sugar in the body. Have a look at this video: it may surprise you :) youtu.be/eKQWFJmCWZE
