So I need some help. I’m currently 13.6 stone and want to get down to atleast 11. When dieting before, I managed to get down to 12.13 stone, however this plateaued at this level and now I’ve gone off the wagon from being annoyed at plateau and have put back on the weight. I feel really sad, and don’t have any self confidence anymore. I miss the person I once was and want to find a new boyfriend but don’t have the confidence. HOW do I lose weight and keep it off?! I used to gym 4 times a week

I would suggest you think in terms of finding a healthy way of eating that you will enjoy for life. Don't get into any more dieting or you'll be coming back here at regular intervals. Start learning more about food and those foods that you might think of as "healthy" that are doing you no good. And don't go anywhere near anything that says "low fat" or "diet" or "lite" - they have had all the natural goodness processed out of them.
As you gave all your details, I put them into the NHS BMI calculator (you can search it) and it gives you a calorie allowance of 1909 to 2455 to lose weight at around 1-2 lbs per week. It will work for you. If you aim lower, you will also lose weight, of course, but then you'll hit a point where your body thinks it's starvation time and it won't part with any more fat.
A good way to start would be joining a weigh in team. You'll get to know a very supportive bunch of people who will appreciate your support, too. Here's the link for tomorrow's. If you read the opening post, it will explain all healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You will be successful, I know you will! I know how hard it is to lose weight and that is can be demotivating but don't give up. Going to the gym is definitely a good plan and that will tone you up. Try to refocus and go for it... 2019 is going to be our year! xx
It most definitely is! We are going to leave all that weight firmly in 2019! You are leaving 2.6 stone and I am absolutely leaving 3 stone there! 2019 we are coming for you! x
Welcome Emily. You’ve already received some good advice and encouragement.
We don’t all lose weight in the same way because we are all different people with different preferences. And many roads lead to Rome. The most important thing is being honest with yourself and consistency. And therefore it is important that you find your own way, a way that is sustainable in the long run for you.
We are a friendly bunch and we like to share our experiences with you and anyone who joins in. Just ask, support others, be active on the forum.
What BridgeGirl has said to you is very good advice re the “healthy” diet foods. I’ve spent years avoiding anything with fat in, thinking I was keeping an eye on my weight, and then all the while a I was feeling hungry and putting on weight. It would appear that for ME, fat wasn’t the enemy, sugar and refined carbs were. Just mentioning it because “LCHF” (low carb, high fat) is another option you may want to consider, the premise being that 100 calories of butter are processed by the body in a totally different way than 100 calories of sugar, rice, potatoes. My turning point this time was when someone suggested I watch the video “The Skinny on Obesity” episode 3, it made me feel I could DO something to get back control of my weight - by eating healthy unprocessed food.
Emily, you may well benefit from the support of a group like Weightwatchers. Follow the advice, don’t under-eat or deprive yourself of foods you enjoy. Try to find an exercise buddy - I wouldn’t go swimming without the companionship of my buddy, especially in winter. I used to love cheese and saved all my points up for it, but now it makes me feel queasy, so your tastes do change. You also find very sweet things too much too, after the natural sweetness of fresh fruit. Watch tv whilst you do your gym work - it distracts you. And only do stuff you enjoy - I only like the rowing machine and the treadmill. Good luck!
I found classes like Zumba and clubercise really good . As you leave book on for the next week then you start a routine . Good for motivation as one person told me I looked better and had amazing energy. Try MyFitnessPal as it gives you macros which at first astounded me as to how much sugar was in certain products . I kept this for just 3 months then thought I can do this myself but great guide to get you going . 2018 was my year . I have now lost 19kg and feel wonderful.
Weight loss happens mainly with what you eat and exercise is secondary although good for the mind and toning up. But as they say " you can't outrun a bad diet" watch your portion size. Focus on health and find an activity you enjoy.
All of your help and hard work made me lose 2 stone!!! I’m still not where I want to be and have screwed up with my eating recently but getting there! Thank you all so so much ❤️
