Hi I recently just had a baby 5 weeks ago and I would like to lose weight. I dont get to get time on my own as im a single mum of 4 children now. I've had men that tell me horrible things to make me feel low about myself and its only now that i feel that i can try at least to make a go of making myself happy again.

Hi and welcome, Tashaviolet :)

I'm glad that you find yourself in a position to concentrate on your health and well-being, but as a new mum, I would urge you to get the OK from your GP/midwife/health visitor, before embarking on a weight loss programme, particularly if you're breast feeding. We don't advise low fat 'diets' for anyone, but particularly for lactating mums.

To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

Hello Tashaviolet , I hope you can start giving yourself the love and respect that others don't.

This isn't the time for thinking about weight loss, but it's always a good time to think about eating healthily, for you and your children. See where you can make healthy swaps for anything that's less than healthy, then come back to weight loss in a few months, when your body has adjusted after child birth, and you have an established routine for all or you :)

Hi, Tashaviolet , Welcome

Some (of us) men are supportive... and perhaps they were "supporting you in your campaign to lose weight", and not just trying to make you feel low?

Do you find that being a single mum of four keeps you active?

Hi Tashaviolet! Congrats on your new baby :). I've recently rejoined here dieting and I have a 9 month old. It's been working well for me on 1600 calories (given myself extra 200 as still breastfeeding a few times a day) but as others have said, even if your not feeding then it's very early days! I would just work on cutting out unhealthy snacks and getting balanced meals in. If you need more structure then slimming world has a programme designed for pregnancy or postnatal that's been approved by midwives.

Also, take it gentle on the exercise front, but after 8 weeks you could try and mum and baby fitness class? Your safe to do high impact stuff after 12 weeks a physio told me.
