Hello everyone im just wondering if anyone has had to go gluten free what where your first steps and how did you manage doing this im a fussy eater so its all a bit over whelming for me then I end up getting stressed and eating the bad things anyway

Hi hannahwilkes54 , what's making you think of going gluten free? Some people have to because they have coeliac disease, so there's no option. Some are diagnosed with, or self-diagnose with, gluten intolerance. Is that you?

It looks as though you have a few responses from forum members who exclude gluten: I hope that's helpful.
I see you describe yourself as a "fussy eater". It may be that you by moving beyond your usual, familiar choices, because of your gluten intolerance (and I'm assuming you have weight to lose as you came to this forum), you will find there are new flavours and textures that you will enjoy. Give it a go. Give yourself a challenge of one or two new ingredients and recipes each week, keep a record of what you liked, what you didn't and what was so-so. We really don't have to be stuck with our descriptions of ourselves. Part of this 'journey' could be you dropping the 'fussy eater' label

I have reduced the amount of gluten in my diet as have food intolerances and it seems to have helped. I have IBS and bread has been one of the triggers so i introduced gluten free wraps to begin with and then gluten free pasta. I do still eat normal bread but in less quantity x

The doctor came out to me the first time I had a gluten allergy attack, came to the conclusion I had had a heart attach and had me carted off by ambulance!
I tested negative for coeliac, but an allergy specialist told me I was allergic to gluten. The said that my attacks would get less acute but longer, and this has happened.
I was thinking that I was getting away with eating some gluten, but I had a distended abdomen, etc., and I feel so much better now that I have cut it out altogether.
On Coeliac UK's website it says that coeliac disease is caused by wheat, barley and rye… but oats also contain gluten. (I have just checked the Coeliac UK's website again, and it says that some people may also have to avoid oats).
Food manufacturers and retailers can label anything gluten free if it passed the coeliac society's test, ¿so all oats can be sold as gluten free?
This is another big con.
I am more allergic to "gluten free" bread than proper bread.
I eat rice cakes.
I love rice cakes and oats and I recently learnt that oats are gluten free but its best to buy gluten free oats because of the cross contamibation there is so much to learn about GF thankyou for your advice
I had to cut out wheat for a year. Rice is your friend. Nutty brown rice with stews, white rice noodles with stir fries, and dark chocolate coated thin rice cakes for snacks (spread with peanut butter - optional!). Look at asian or middle eastern cooking for inspiration, and google lettuce wraps for ideas that cut out the starchy part altogether. After a year I was told I was okay to go "low wheat" but I was diagnosed with a dairy intolerance in the long term. So some symptoms did go. Hope your symptoms ease too
