Having cycled 430 miles in 3 days I had to have a op which has left me unable to do exercise for 6 weeks. Weight gain is not normally a problem put I am looking to get down to around 9-10% body fat somewhere around 9st-13 to 10-2 currently around 10 7. I have always used the basis of eating natural foods and cooking my own. But if anyone wishes to learn more around the ideas I use this book is where I would go.

Hi paul01603 . It's OK to recommend books you've found useful but I'm going to remove the link to the book as we're cautious about links to other sites
Well if I raced 430 miles in 3 days I would need several ops!! I am not feeling peak performance.....more comfortable cruising but if there is a book which can get me to that level of fitness I say bring it on.
Hi, paul01603 ...
I was an endurance cyclist rather than a racing cyclist, but I cycled 760 miles in 90 hours (in 1995)... and it felt like bedtime at eight o'clock for weeks!
That winter I broke a metatarsal (stumbled doing step-aerobics)... so I could not cycle for a week or two. I used a triathlon pedal-clip overshoe so I could cycle - and I actually cycled on snow with my foot in plaster!
When I was cycling 15,000 miles a year, I did not have to try very hard to loose weight, but now I am disabled and have to loose weight by eating less.
Hi, again paul01603 ...
It seems that you posted here to give us the benefit of your experience...
or are you looking for weight-loss advice?
¿Are you able to do any exercise now, to minimise muscle loss?
Are you trying to loose weight on a schedule, or for next season?
If you have been doing a great deal of exercise, and having to eat, it is very difficult to suddenly adjust your appetite/diet to loose weight. ... I was probably averaging 3,000 calories a day when I was cycling, and about 1,000 now, and I have been loosing two pounds a week. (I just trundled back from lunch in my electric wheelchair.)
I too eat proper food, but I eliminate sweets, snacks and treats, and I have just an apple, orange and a banana for tea/supper. I get OAP Age Concern lunches three times a week, and I have a carvery on Sunday (with as many green vegetable as I can get on the plate), and I have been skipping lunch two or three days a week... but I now plan to loose one pound a week and get down to 30% BMI by Christmas.
The U. S. Navy body fat estimator tells me my body fat percentage is 27%, with a lean mass of 85kg. I found a chart on the internet which said that the upper end of the healthy range of body fat for old men was 25% - so I am not a million miles away.
