Alcohol and me

Something I have realised over the last few days is that I am far too alcohol reliant, it gives me confidence and helps me socially when I’m miserable because I’ve slipped back in to my size 18’s again.

Over the many years I’ve battled my weight I have never confronted why I eat and why I drink alcohol and I’m finding this self analysis to be a really powerful tool.

It seems that rather than being a “big eater” and liking “a drink or two”, I use food and drink as props to support me. By challenging this and saying no ,I can get back the control that’s been missing.

I can do this!

It's great when the penny drops, isn't it Maurpc?! :)

Well done for spotting your traits and taking steps to change them :)

You're starting from a good point Maurpc , by taking an honest look at how your behaviour is working against your best interests :)

I took a decision about alcohol 18 months ago. I accepted that once I started, I can't/won't stop, so I don't keep it in the house. I live alone, so it's entirely under my control. I also had a friend whose influence in lots of ways was increasingly toxic, so with great difficulty I brought an end to that friendship. I do have an occasional drink - a single glass bottle of wine or a can of G&T, but I know I can't risk buying a bottle.

Re eating, I've found the forum so supportive and informative, and I hope you do, too :)

I know exactly how you feel about keeping it in the house for me it was all too easy for it to make me feel lovely and relaxed and think I'll just have another one

I feel so much fitter and happier now I made that decision like you 😊

Perhaps we eat when we are bored; try drinking a glass of water, before reaching for the crisps or making another sandwich, go for a walk around the block. Is there a neighbour with a dog, who could do with a walk? you could always ask them. they might be really pleased.Phone a friend. Best wishes

I used alcohol to help me with anxiety it's great to feel calm short term but then afterwards I realised it was making me feel far worse I hardly ever have a drink now and I feel so much better for it It's like moreless says it's when the penny drops its a wonderful moment

One thing that has really really been a life changer for me was doing a mindfulness course and practicing it every day It's so lovely and keeps me calm and happy

All the very best 😊
