To be honest Jo, everywhere you look will give you a different answer. Personally, I count all fluids, although I don't drink fruit juices, sugary/artificially sweetened, or caffeinated drinks and rely on my body to tell me when it's thirsty.
As long as my urine is clear to pale straw coloured and not dark yellow/orange, I know I'm hydrated enough.

I have started (last 3 years) to drink a lot more water - always thought I didn't like the taste!
I do drink quite a lot of tea (about 5 big cups a day, 3 before I even got out of bed!), 2 freshly brewed coffees. I try and drink a large glass of water with meals and also in between the coffee/teas. I find that often what I used to think was "hunger" is in fact thirst. Drinking water satiates me.
I'll always take a flask of water out with me when I am out for the whole day and it always gets drunk.

I think most people dont understand the importance of drinking water! i feel soooo much better when I am hydrated.
I believe that at least 2L is recommended daily but it will vary from person to person depending on their weight and activity level.

I also count cups of herbal/ green teas in my fluid intake but i usually ignore coffee as it tends to dehydrate me, again everyone is different
