Some of you may have read my post "Lesson learned don't over estimate your abilities" where I mentioned that in conjunction with my 20 minute step exercise I also used some 5lb 8oz dumbbells (each one) given to me my my mate, and I ended up with quite acute pains in my biceps and could not fully straighten my arms as the muscles were so tight the following day (in fact for around three days after), so for the rest of last week I left out the dumbbells as part of my exercise routine.
Last night I set up my exercise area in the garage and elected to utilise the 2lb lump hammers (each one) in place of the 5 1/2 lb dumbbells, don't get me wrong I'm not using them for some body building enhancement, but just to assist in toning my arms and chest as I work out on the step as part of my weight loss goal. I'm pleased to say this worked out really well !, after a 25 minute work out I could feel that this 2lb additional weight in my hands rather than the 5lb 8 oz had left my arms and shoulders feeling good, even though I did the same repetitions as with the heavier weights over a week ago, yes I can tell that I have worked out my arms as there is a slight tightness of that muscle group, but there is no pain. Tonight I'm going to do the same again and see how that goes.
On another note though, I was quite happily exercising 'alone' as my family had gone out, after I was into my workout by about 15 minutes suddenly the garage door opened behind me, I could see the reflection of my wife and daughter in the window in front of me, and they started singing along with the music I had on at the time (both taking the mick). I didn't want to stop my routine and turn and make a rude gesture to them so I continued on for the last five minutes, in that time they closed the door and left me to it.
When I finished my work out and was stretching out/warming down my 16 Yr old daughter came in all dressed in her training outfit (some sort of multi coloured Lycra) and said she wanted to have a go, so I set her up, showed her what I do, then I started the music again and left her to it, well she began her work out with such ease and said "this is a doddle".
Now 15 minutes past and she appeared from the garage bright red and sweating profusely, I look at her and laughed just as she said "actually that is not as easy as I thought" (she plays ladies football) so I laughed again!!! the one thing to come out of my desire to lose weight is that from a fitness point of view my family have seen what I'm doing and are now all getting into it, however I'll see how long their enthusiasm lasts.
Have a good day everyone.

You're a trail blazer, Ninja! You're showing everyone the way! The Ninja family will be true ninjas, in next to no time!
I'm glad that you've found a routine that works for you and I'm sure it won't be long before you're hefting those 5.5lb weights as easily as you are the lump hammers now!
Ha! thanks for the comment, I would like to emphasise though the my screen name of "NinjaW78" was not intended as a reference to us being some sort of martial art fanatics, but was purely picked as I used to own a 'Kawasaki ZX9R Ninja' motorcycle before I was knocked off it by some dutch tourists a few years ago, and the bike was written off. The W78 was part of its registration number that was W78 PAF, so I just put them together, the bike in my profile picture is not the Ninja but my Honda which I have owned for 30 years, however the "Ninja family" is funny
'Oh My God' having watched that video all the way through I must be a Ninja!!!! I creep around silently behind my wife when I'm trying to make a break for the pub, I've taken beatings to the head and body by heavy objects when I've come back from the pub, (although that was not to improve stamina on my part), I have used distraction tactics with my wife, again so I can go to the pub, I have dressed in dark colours so that I blend in with the darkness again when walking to the pub.
I am a fully fledged Ninja, Thanks Moreless for pointing this out to me.
I also have a low centre of gravity like a ninja due to my belly overhang, again thanks to the PUB. I think there's a bit of a theme brewing here wouldn't you agree ???????
Brilliant post NinjaW78 π I'm glad your new weights are more suitable, and that your daughter is inspired! π Your wife will be next, hubby and I spur each other on, if one of us isn't in the mood the other talks them round, it makes a huge difference.
Well I don't think it will be long before my wife, joins this group as she mentioned it last night when I got home, so I'll have to be careful what I say from now on.
Half the battle in life is making sure there is some fun in it like I said otherwise what's the point we've only got one shot at it!!!, if you can do that it makes the daily toil more bearable.
