Morning everyone,
Some of you may have read my post "Lesson learned don't over estimate your abilities" where I mentioned that in conjunction with my 20 minute step exercise I also used some 5lb 8oz dumbbells (each one) given to me my my mate, and I ended up with quite acute pains in my biceps and could not fully straighten my arms as the muscles were so tight the following day (in fact for around three days after), so for the rest of last week I left out the dumbbells as part of my exercise routine.
Last night I set up my exercise area in the garage and elected to utilise the 2lb lump hammers (each one) in place of the 5 1/2 lb dumbbells, don't get me wrong I'm not using them for some body building enhancement, but just to assist in toning my arms and chest as I work out on the step as part of my weight loss goal. I'm pleased to say this worked out really well !, after a 25 minute work out I could feel that this 2lb additional weight in my hands rather than the 5lb 8 oz had left my arms and shoulders feeling good, even though I did the same repetitions as with the heavier weights over a week ago, yes I can tell that I have worked out my arms as there is a slight tightness of that muscle group, but there is no pain. Tonight I'm going to do the same again and see how that goes.
On another note though, I was quite happily exercising 'alone' as my family had gone out, after I was into my workout by about 15 minutes suddenly the garage door opened behind me, I could see the reflection of my wife and daughter in the window in front of me, and they started singing along with the music I had on at the time (both taking the mick). I didn't want to stop my routine and turn and make a rude gesture to them so I continued on for the last five minutes, in that time they closed the door and left me to it.
When I finished my work out and was stretching out/warming down my 16 Yr old daughter came in all dressed in her training outfit (some sort of multi coloured Lycra) and said she wanted to have a go, so I set her up, showed her what I do, then I started the music again and left her to it, well she began her work out with such ease and said "this is a doddle".
Now 15 minutes past and she appeared from the garage bright red and sweating profusely, I look at her and laughed just as she said "actually that is not as easy as I thought" (she plays ladies football) so I laughed again!!! the one thing to come out of my desire to lose weight is that from a fitness point of view my family have seen what I'm doing and are now all getting into it, however I'll see how long their enthusiasm lasts.
Have a good day everyone.
