Turn off the news and lower stress

I know that earlier in the year I responded to the news by being very stressed which resulted in comfort eating so when I started my 8 week blood sugar diet I took a decision to ignore the news as much as possible. There is little one can do to change the international situation or influence domestic politics and reports of extremism just make one feel helpless. So turn off the news. Don't watch the news before going to bed and you will be surprised how much happier you will feel and how much better you sleep. Just be grateful that each morning you have woken to a new day to enjoy.

I'm with you on this one, I listen to the radio on the way to work and have started to switch off bad news. I felt guilty at first , like that meant I didn't care, but actually it's because I care a lot that it's so distressing. I can't change much in the world but all day at my job and some unpaid overtime is where I do what I can to help people and I have to keep my stress levels in check if I'm going to carry on with working in a drowning NHS and look after my own family.

I know what you mean, I work in Adult Social Services for my local county council. My team is the one that is supposed to place people with care in the community. Good luck finding it though. It's another dire situation compounded by the schools being on vacation for the summer. :(

Still, we'll get there eventually. Just takes way longer than we'd like........

So I don't really need to hear about this in the news either!

I retired from being a child care lawyer for many years and I know those years were very stressful and effected my health for the worse. You are doing a difficult and stressful job and you need to take care of yourself as well.

Thanks for what you do for society

Yes reduce your field of vision to what you can influence. It's the powerlessness to effect change which is so stressful and debilitating

Tune to Magic or Classic and give radio 4 a wide berth.

Take care of you and yours and be kind to others. That is all we can do

Thanks for not giving up on the NHS

I think I will take your advice as the current world tension is turning me into a nervous wreck.

I agree with you turn it off!!!

I used to worry myself sick constantly all my life😢 it started to happen when I had the children from 1983+ as I worry for them, but every time something happened threats, war, disasters I got myself into such a state and couldn't sleep etc. My hubby told me off and said switch it off so now I do and even avoid going to shops that sell newspapers as like he said the headlines will alaways be over the top in order to catch your eye to buy it.

The main news and even local news very rarely tell you a good heartwarming story like success, someone who has done a good deed, beat illness etc. So reduce stress, worry, get on with life, we can't change events but we can reduce our worry over them.😊👍

Hi pcrw aye I avoid watching the news aswell. When the tragedy at grenfell tower happened I felt extremely affected by it with good reason and I had to speak to my counsellor about it. X
