I am and have been vegetarian for many years. My Mum always says you won't lose weight eating pulses!

Hi Ali, cheese, bread and butter are my biggest downfall, am starting to try and improve slowly lol

I love cheese but I try to use it as a garnish nowadays. The stronger flavour cheeses need less quantity. Regarding bread I try to limit myself to two slices daily. Sadly if my daughter buys white bread for toasting that's when I fall off the wagon. Buttered toast is so moreish. I find eating eggs stave off hunger. Also I have just discovered Warburton's protein thins and wraps. Very tasty and have added pulses in them. I prefer the thins to the wraps for a sandwich but I'm sure the wraps would make a fabulous pizza.

I have made a pizza on a wrap and it was lovely and so easy and surprisingly filling, I piled it high with mushroom, onion, peppers and olives and it certainly did the trick

I will definitely give it a try. I like a good pizza 😋

I've also made pizza on a wrap :) I keep all bread in the freezer and just retrieve slices etc as I need them. I recommend warburton thin bagels. 120 cals. Pitta breads can also be cut in half and filled generously :) But the trick is really to become slowly less reliant on bread as the main basis of meals...

Pizza on a wholemeal pitta with salad is also really nice

Hi Eve60

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

I am not a veggie but you will find there are plenty on here.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance. Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

We have daily weigh in's so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

You may notice that members have a grey box next to their name, these are achievement badges. All new members have a "newbie" badge to begin with.

Please note if you are using the new HU app it does not have all the forums features on it, so we suggest you use the full website version.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Thankyou

I'm a pescetarian with dairy intolerance so lots of my meals end up vegan unless I'm having eggs or fish. There are lots of healthy veggie ideas out there. Try Mediterranean mezze, asian cooking, roast veg and lentil salads. I found that I needed to expand the range of protein sources as before my diet was very carb heavy. Look up lettuce leaf wraps, filled with tofu or bean curd stir fry. Experiment with frittatas, batch cook lots of daal for the freezer, swap white rice for brown, add ground peanuts into asian style salads. There's loads out there :)

There's some great ideas there. I'm going to hunt out some of your suggestions.

Slowly gather your own tips. Mine have been developed over the course of 2+ years. Browse the recipe section in your local library, as well as the recipes "topic" on this forum, on the bbc food pages, just google "lettuce wraps" etc :)

I'm vegetarian and following NHS 12 week plan lost a stone and use My Fitness Pal to track everything.

Increase your fibre and protein gradually. I did a shop today and bought 21 vegetarian sausages- not to eat all at once!! I used to easily have 5-6 potions of fruit and veg now it's still 2-3 fruit plus 5-8 veg so I've doubled my veg intake helps feeling fuller and low in calories.

I've drastically cut my cake and wine/ beer intake. Bread one slice instead of two. So less empty calories and more variety.

In some ways I think being vegetarian is easier for WeightLoss (almost 0 saturated fat) more veg it offers its own challenges. For example I'd never go low carb I've cut down to 50% of my daily intake and think that's low enough. You have to look more for prepared food and healthy recipes no tuna or lean chicken for us. But it can be done and if I think of more tips I'll share them. Good luck and welcome

I'm a pescetarian too, but without the dairy intolerance. Getting enough protein is my challenge. I eat many of the same things as Hidden plus low fat / high protein dairy products like cottage cheese and skyr (I don't know if you have skyr in the U.K.? It is a cultured dairy product with the consistency of strained yogurt but higher in protein and lower in fat). I love chickpeas and different types of dried beans but I'm not crazy about tofu.
