Need to try something......

This is the first time I have used an online forum so forgive me if i sound daft!

Since giving up smoking 8 years ago I have struggled with my weight and recently found out i have a Thyroid problem so have medication to contend with now too! I joined WW 2 years ago and lost 1.5 stone but have since put that back on and then some!

My doctor has now told me I am in the 'obese' BMI category and my belly is starting to overtake my boobs! :( I have now toppled the 16 stone marker and am 5ft 9.

I have a busy job which means I grab food when i can and dont have much time for the gym etc although i do walk the 2.5 miles to and from work every day....any tips would be appreciated.

Thank You

Welcome, I had never used an online forum before this one, and still use no other. This is a wonderful supportive place to be, everyone is friendly and will support you 100%.

I would say make food your friend not your enemy, cook from ingredients not packets and come on here regularly. The more you put in the more you get out.

It terms of time, you just have to make time to cook and eat healthily, your life really does depend on it. I would class myself as a workaholic- and I put myself in hospital because of it. Don't make the same mistake.

Make it an adventure with food, call in at the Daily Diary thread and find out what other people eat, join us and tell us what you plan to eat. You learn loads by participating.

Good luck and take care.

I too quit smoking and gained with a thyroid issue. I took up vaping which is not smoke and is safe.i don't get any nicotine, it's just a good substitute. I can lose weight. It's just slow. I have found that if I plan meals and eat enough calories it comes off. I've lost sixteen lbs now in eight weeks. I just have to have willpower and know it's for my health. I don't exercise yet but it would be more if I did. I'm not there yet and still have 29 lbs to lose but I'm going to do it. Good luck to you.

Hello SazWaz16 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

Thanks all , I have read the pinned post and joined the 12 week plan.

Today I have had my usual Rice Krispies for breakfast, pasta salad for lunch with some berries this afternoon and a small portion of Chicken Jalfrezi curry with boiled basmati rice for tea..... all in all a total of around 900 calories all in all. That's me done until tomorrow...

Fingers crossed :)

Hi I did the 12 week plan and actually have continued using it but increased my calorie intake form the 1400/day to 1750/day since I am on the mainenance part. I am just a bit concerned about the 900 calories you plan to have- you should aim for 1400 if you are following the plan and if you eat too little your body thinks it is starving so stores what you eat in fat cells so you put on weight. I know it sounds logical that if you eat less you will loose weight and to a certain extent that is correct, but if you reduce what you eat by a lot then it can actually lead you to put on weight or keep static. Also you are more likely to feel hungry and be tempted to eat unhealthily- me its crisps!

I would advise you to eat extra and keep to the 1400/day recommended by NHS plan- I have lost nearly 2 stones since January and gradually increased my intake once I reached my target weight.

Thanks for the advice, this sounds like where i may have been going wrong all along, I have been trying to lose weight now for a year and put on 3 stone!

Day 2 I had:

Cereal for breakfast (170)

Chicken salad wrap and a few chips for lunch (450)

Pasta Bake (400)

White Chocolate Magnum (240)

Totaling approx 1220

Love the magnum- I must admit that if I'm under on my calories I use it as an opportunity to have a treat. I'd probably aim for 1400 per day or use the NHS BMI calculator which works out the min- max calorie allowance to loose weight. If you don't get any calories it means you are kin the healthy BMI range so then stick to 1400 if your female and I think it's 1900 for men. Hope you'll start to loose weight and enjoyed your magnum!

Hi SazWaz16 sorry I didn't see your post earlier...

Welcome and enjoy the forum. I totally understand the belly statement, I had a belly, boob-shelf and boobs sitting on the shelf.. a bit like the Michelin man advert!! The Good News is your shape can be reclaimed.. Give yourself time and a good plan and work towards it each day, no one gets overweight overnight, so we won't lose it to keep it off any quicker than we gained it!!

Cheering you on to your goals 🎉🎉🎉

Hi there welcome to the forum. I do the boob shelf as well. I have just myself eating healthier and exercised the past 2 weeks. Is there sometime during the week you can make homemade dishes and then you can grab and go. That is great the walk you do. You can change that figure of yours. Don't get discouraged. Have a great journey.
