Start of a new me yet again

I'm fast approaching 50 and a serial dieter. I have tried almost every plan under the sun with variable amounts of success. Some have made me ill. I find the older I get the harder it is to lose weight and need portion control which is probably why I started to fail with slimming world . I was brought up to not leave anything on my plate. I m looking for people to help me embark onto a sustainable healthy eating plan.

Morning Hidden

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Welcome and good luck to you!

I so feel for you, Ali! Like you, I have been taught to eat all that's on your plate, I know it was meant to teach me to put less on my plate, but it has left many with a legacy of over eating.

I also remember arguing with my mum over my children finishing when they had enough!

I still feel 'rude' not to finish all when I eat somewhere else, but I have gotten better and I am so glad that my children don't follow the same pattern.

Be kind to yourself, use a smaller plate, fill up more veg, have a drink of water before dinner - you know all these tricks. Focus on making yourself leave a little food on your plate each day, congratulate yourself when you have put it in the bio bin. Do this very very consciously - it is doable and it does get easier 😊

Thank you for the advice. I always try to fill half of my plate with vegetables anyway. I will drink a glass of water before each meal and will try to leave a little something. I think my stomach needs to shrink again.

I have found this forum really helpful. Lots of support and shared wisdom.

If portion control is your downfall, have you tried counting calories? There are free apps that make it really easy. Someone on here suggested it to me, and it's been a real eye opener.

Best wishes and let us know how you're getting on.

I mainly try and use my fitness pal but I think a smaller plate may be a bit of an advantage. Weighing everything is such a bind. Fair enough with calorie dense food but vegetables can be a bit of a bind.

Not what you're looking for?
