Hi all, as anyone who has seen Stanley Kubrick's film, Full Metal Jacket will know, the title of this post is taken from one of the many epic lines spoken by R.Lee Ermey in his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann.
Now although I'm not as slow as his worst recruit, Gomer Pyle, I do have something of a weight problem. I've been a 'porker' since I was a child and as I've got older, the problem hasn't improved any! I blame the alcohol - but as I've now given that up for the foreseeable future, I can't use that excuse any longer! LOL
So why have I come here? Well that's easy. I've always been a competitive animal and I like to set and achieve goals. My goal by coming here is firstly to achieve a regular, steady weight-loss with the aid and support of like-minded individuals and secondly, to be able to pass on any tips and tricks that I can, to others who may be struggling with their weight.
So there we are. And here I am.........

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi and welcome the competition is with yourself but you can make yourself accountable to others on the forum. Say you promise to loose 2lb by next week and your next weigh in. Make small goals treat yourself when reached then set the next.
We are all here for the same reason, some have lots to loose some have little. Some are loosing for looks and feeling fitter, some for health reasons that they are suffering from already, some to get ready for a special event but the goal is the same.
Why not give yourself a more positive name just become Fullmetaljacket etc rather than giving yourself a negative name because you won't be that way for long now. The power is in your hands👍 Change is on the horizon🌅
