Medication & injury caused weight gain

Hello to you all,

Last year I feel down the stairs & broke my back in 4 places. As you can imagine this has been a difficult year for me. Prior to this accident I was a regular runner, and took part in many 5 & 10k charity runs. I took up running when I stopped smoking. I stopped smoking due to developing COPD. I am on a few different medications for pain, nerve damage, depression and 3 different inhalers.. I have gained 2 stone & 3lb over this past year. I am not able to exercise fully, as I am awaiting to have 2 operations on my spine. I need help, I'm looking for some encouragement & motivation to lose this weight, though the medications I'm on make it difficult.

Hi and welcome - so sorry to hear about your accident

Here is some info to help you with this forum - but please take the advice of you Dr on exercise :)

None of us on here are medically trained, but are all here to lose or maintain weight and support others :) IndigoBlue61 will be along in a bit to welcome you too :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

(Please ignore the exercise challenges due to your situation ;) )

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :) and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Wishing you all the best

Hi Amree like you have just join the group, and I totally empathise with you as I have cervical spondylitis, which is a degenerative spinal problem, and with the many pain and depression/ Anxiety medication I have been put on I have also put on 2.5 stone in a year. Good luck with your journey and hope all goes well with your operation x 😊

Hey lou lou,

Thank you for your warm welcome and identification, it's good to find people in a similar situation. To swap ideas. Well I need some good ideas, because I've just been wallowing in self pity 'giggle'... It's time to take a leap of faith & step out of this 'uncomfortable, comfy zone' I've created... I'll be watching out for you 😉

Good Morning,

Im so sorry to hear about all your health problems, you must be feeling really down.

I can't offer you any advice on your health, but regarding the weight issue i can totally understand where you are coming from.

I have 4 stone to lose and started on this site last tuesday, its going to be a long journey for me to lose this week, but I'm taking it one day at a time and breaking it down into 7Ib blocks. There is lots of support on this site and i have joined the 12NHS plan, lots of useful information, its worth having a look at.

If its support and encouragement you want and need, you've come to the right place.

Have a great weekend, and i look forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care of yourself, xxxx
