The love of food/alcohol & lack of exercise has finally bitten me on the backside = very overweight, sluggish, large clothes and now (after a visit to the doctor for something else) have blood pressure tablets (very high reading) and more tests next week. I am so annoyed with myself for letting it get like this.....Now NEED t do something about it........I have been told not to exercise until blood pressure comes down a little so concentrating on diet and any tips or stories about motivation would be enormously appreciated. 50 yr old female NEWBIE ALERT needing ... - Weight Loss Support
50 yr old female NEWBIE ALERT needing help!
Hi and welcome, EMU
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi and welcome EMU1
wishing you all the best on your journey
moreless has given you great information to the forum - I recommend doing the BMI check as it tells you a calorie range to be eating within to lose weight
Calorie counting was a chore for me to start with but I did loads of research on here and I also set up a spread sheet of my regular foods so i could work them out quickly and log them - I use myfitnesspal to log my calorie intake
Join us on the Daily Diaries as you will get loads of ideas for food / menus etc, just remember the calories next to any food on there are for that persons amount of food so you will have to work yours out depending on the amount
Wishing you all the best on your journey
Thank you x
Welcome EMU1
Sorry to hear you're having health problems, but you've come to the right place for weight loss support. I don't think I would have managed at all well without the support here. Which is good as I still have quite a ways to go yet!
Good luck!
Hi,
I know exactly where your coming from.
I'm 57, 4 stone overweight, unable to fit into any of my nice clothes, very very annoyed 😒 with myself for letting things get this bad.
Unable to exercise as I'm waiting for surgery on my knee, so I now feel it's now or never to get myself sorted out.
I'm very new to this site, only started on Monday and weighed in on Tuesday.
There is lots of support and advice on this site which is great and so very helpful.
I hope all goes ok with your Gp and your BP.
Good luck 😉 on your journey, let's hope next week you and I are back smiling after losing a few pounds.
Have a great week. Xxxx
Thank you 25willow.....we sound very similar...I too have a knee problem which stops you doing things....however this DOES have to be done.....perhaps we could compare each week....(not as a competition but as support)? X
That would be great 👍
What day will you be stepping on the scales.
Enjoy your day. Xxx
thinking a Thursday as that is the day I started........Xx
Good for you, so far going ok 👌 Drinking lots of water 💦
Meals are healthy, need to keep a watch on my portion control but I feel I'm well in control at the moment.
To be perfectly honest I'm not weighing everything, but if I have a chicken breast I always put it as a large one etc.
How are you feeling and doing on plan??
Feeling in control and planning your meals.
Have a great weekend xxx
First things first , don't panic and start a plan of action , and most of all take it a day at a time , be happy 😊 from bigbellylad!!
Welcome. You will find lots of support from others here. Make sure you measure yourself and take a photo if you don't have a recent one, as that helps when the scales 'stick' some weeks. Even if you can't exercise, you can still do some gentle flexing of muscles, such as pulling your tummy in or pressing your hands together. This will start to restore muscle tone. Do them slowly and gently. Good luck.
Hello and welcome EMU1
I do hope you are finding the forum and the 12 week plan useful 😀 It's not easy when health issues stop,is living the life we want to live, I hope you soon have your BP under control and are feeling a little more positive
Best wishes
Anna
