Hi

I am seriously, seriously overweight and have loads to lose so hopefully I will be part of the community for quite a while.

Beyond overeating and loving bread and butter as a key comfort food, I have great difficulty exercising.

I have myelomalacia and have had two ops on my neck. As a result I find walking difficult - very stiff over-toned legs - co-ordination and balance are rubbish - and can't do anything likely to put stress on the vertebrae in my neck.

I reckon I can, with will power stick, to the calories but would love some tips on any any appropriate exercises to increase calorie expenditure!

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

I know when we all start these weight loss journeys they can seem daunting but try not to look at the bigger picture, break it down into 7lbs portions and when you reach each target reward your self with a non food reward and the weight will soon start to disappear. Due to the problem in your neck I would advise you speak to your GP before doing any kind of exercise to be on the safe side.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hi, welcome! I wouldn't worry too much about the exercise yet. Getting your intake right is important. Cutting down or even cutting out carbs like bread and potato will really help. You might not even need to calorie count if you just replace those things with veg. I have done that and have lost 6 stone since September. Good luck, how much would you like to lose?

Thank you. Losing 6 stone is incredible - and really encouraging.

Hi and welcome to the forum

As Rose has said due to your neck you should seek advice from your GP prior to doing any exercise :)

Wishing you all the best on your journey :)
