hey I'm new too. The plan looks good. Realistic and manageable. Its all about changing bad habits and changing your lifestyle not just your food. I'm going to do all my weight and measurements tomorrow then start week one on Monday. Have you started it yet? or just considering it?

Hello Hidden and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

It works as much as we work if that makes sense.

Many have followed the 12 week program and made a success of it, but it takes effort to change old habits.. None of us gained or held the weight overnight, and none can lose it that fast.

This is certainly tried, tested and proven to be popular, workable and free... Lots of support too.

Oh they have gone. Mustn't have liked us :)

Hi I have been on the NHS 12 week weight loss plan since 1st January and have gone down from 10st down to 8st 8lb. I have enjoyed it because there useful tips but also I am eating what I normally eat but counting the calories so making sure I am better a mixing and matching meals. Somedays I was eating 2 high calorific meals in a day and other days I was eating less than I should have. Its important to either to stick to the recommended calorific intake recommended based on gender- I'm female so mine was 1400 calories or some people base it on the lower range of their allowance based on the BMI calculator on the NHS choices website, if they find they are still hungry is following the set daily intake.

Don't eat less than the set intake 1400 (I think its 1900 for men) because if you don't eat enough you actually put weight on beacsue your body thinks you are starving yourself so stores all calories as fat to help you through the starvation. I know its sounds counter-intuitive to eat more to loose weight but a lot of people who have done this found they have started to loose weight once they increased their calorific intake.

There are other on the site who go to Slimming World, Weight Watchers, and other specialist diets, so its whatever works for you- but I would give it a month before reviewing whether its right for you, because it is changing how you think about food and getting you more active

Good luck

hello hidden and welcome! I find this place to be wonderful therapy for me and I have not posted in 4 months and have the weight to show it! I recommend posting often and looking at it like the lifestyle change it is and not a diet. to me, the word diet is so daunting and I feel so low sometimes when I go off my healthy lifestyle that I come back and post. I think if I did not wait so long, I would be in much better shape now. I love the way I feel when I am eating healthier and want that feeling again. you can do this! it is not a programme so much as it is a new way of life. I want to live longer and feel better so I do this program. I love it here, no one is judgemental or rude and they are all so helpful. I think you will find this true as well. Good luck and chin up!!
