I'm new to your great website and hope to lose just over 2 stones.
I have assessed my BMI and this indicates that I should eat approx 1400 calories per day to lose weight.
Following some careful calorie counting, I suspect that my usual daily calorie intake is already lower than this!
I do moderate exercise already. Now what?

Hi and welcome 2fat66
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
There is lots of support and encouragement here so you have come to the right place.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
You should be able to download a calories counter on your tablet but I'm not sure how to do it. Have a look under Topics in the posts called "Activity/caltracker"
As it gives you a little more info than NHS BMI calculator.
For calorie counting, I recommend MyFitnessPal app. I admit that it is the first one I tried, but it does the trick and more. I am using Endomondo to track my activity and you can synchronise them. You can also synchronise several tracker like Fitbit.
Both things are free
Now, regarding exercises, what do you do? Do you have cardio? Strenght? HIIT? Stretches? Try to varybyour exercises, as surprising your organism makes it more effective. Our bodies are great with adaptation, so changing your routine from time to time (e.g. every 3-4 weeks) will help you a lot.
About food. How much below are you with your calorie intake? Eating too little make your metabolism slower, as your organism may think it is starvation period and it needs to hold to every calorie you are eating.
What do you usually eat? As not only how much, but also what we are eating decide about our weight loos journey Increase your vegetable and healthy fats (e.g. nuts, peanut butter, avocados, fatty fishes). If you are still below boost it up with few fruits during first half of a day. Try to find healthier exchanges for foods you're eating, e.g. plain/white bread for the wholegrain one, the same with pasta, white to brown rice. Minimise sugar consumption, apart from fruits. Try to limit alcohol, and if you're out drinking try to pick lower calorie drinks like gin&tonic.
Remember it is not a diet, it is healthy eating. It is a change of lifestyle, not a temporary quick fix. So try to experiment, find healthy things that you like. It must work for YOU! Some people go cold turkey other keep their little guilts in control by planning them and allowing once in a while something good. Whatever works for you. It is maraton, not a sprint. And you should enjoy the ride
Thank you so much for taking the time to help out. This is REALLY USEFUL advice, which I will most definitely follow up - the site seems a bit overwhelming but I'm slowly finding my way around!
I qas very overwhelmed by this site / forum in the beginning. Just go slowly One thing at a time. I am quite new in here, and still learning the site and discovering new ideas and challenges. For now I am on DD (Daily Diary) and Friday Weigh-ins. I think with time I join more topics
