Not unaware of what I need to do, but lack staying power. Looking for motivational support and tips, and to offer the same.

Today's a new day.....
Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Grannybwell ๐ (I love your user name btw, as a new Granny that is my philosophy too ๐)
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you โบ
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news โบ
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for โบ
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate โบ
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page โบ
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask โบ
Best wishes
Anna
OK. Here goes. Facing facts... As much as I can. Bathroom scales show 11st 10ib. Approx 2 to 2 half St over weight. Seems a bit more than I thought. Can't face measuring. Shopping done... Would love to hear some tips for gentle exercise as weight gain has come about since injury last year... Running etc just not an option anymore... Day 1...
Well done ๐ You now 'own' that number and it doesn't define you.
Exercise is very beneficial but not necessary for weight loss. Focus on diet for a couple of weeks until you get going, take time to find a way of eating that fits in and create good long term eating habits.
And don't under-estimate the power of walking, I started with 10 minutes twice a day, and build up from there. A few stretches in the morning can be useful ๐
Good luck!
I used the 5:2 eating plan to lose weight. Two non consecutive days each week I cut calories to between 500 and 800. The rest of the week I eat normally. This cuts the weekly calories and for me was much easier to stick to. If you go to a gym they should be able to give advice on exercise.
Did you not find that the other 5 days became feast days.. So kind of cancelling out the 2 fast days? I admire your tenacity...
No I didn't find the other days were feast days, if anything after a while I ate less on the other days.
Is it OK to ask how much you lost... Over what time? I've been doing some reading on 5:2....You have caught my interest...
I have lost over 2.5 stone. Most of it in about 8 months. I have maintained or lost slowly since the initial loss.
Hi and welcome. I have recently started a gentle yoga class to help with flexibility. I have also tried an Active over 60s session in a gym near me, which involved Pilates type exercises, but also included step ups onto a small platform, sitting down and getting up again onto/from a larger block and pulling on some ropes in a rowing sort of motion. The first two you could do at home - using a step on the stairs and a chair. At the class we did 30 seconds exercise, 30 seconds recovery, then 3 times 30 seconds exercise, then 15 seconds recovery going in turn through the 3 exercises 4 times. Strikes me this is adaptable to longer exercise periods, if too easy. But I think I will do these on my own at home rather than driving to and paying for the gym.
